Dr Ashleigh Riley has joined our team at Nahoon Medical Practice as I take a leave of absence to be at home with our youngest daughter. She will also be filling in for myself (Dr Caileigh Koen) and Dr Karen Emby Rugunanan as we both go on maternity leave in short succession of each other.

She completed her medical degree at The University of Pretoria and completed post-graduate diplomas in both HIV management and Child Health. She has a particular interest in palliative care, pain management and paediatrics and enjoys being a part of her patients’ health journey.

She is an avid reader of fiction and loves the outdoors and spending time on the beach.

We look forward to welcoming her to our team and adding to her healthcare journey.

🌼 I am currently on extended leave 🌼

Our youngest daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes a week ago. At this stage, I am home with her for as long as needed. My patients will be assisted and can request to see any of my colleagues.

My maternity leave is just around the corner, so the likelihood of me returning soon seems unlikely.

Our rooms are OPEN and everyone is willing to help where help is needed. Please do not hesitate to contact the rooms as per normal for any requests etc.

Thank you for understanding my abscence at this stage. For now, our hands are full, but our hearts are OVER-FLOWING with gratitude towards ALL who have been involved in the care, both medically and emotionally.

Our Wednesday started like any ordinary day - school drop-off’s, the usual office admin rush and after-school pick-up’s. Little did we know that we would look at life from a totally different perspective within a couple of hours.

Our youngest daughter was admitted with very high blood glucose levels yesterday afternoon and my husband and I have now started navigating this journey of learning to parent a toddler with Type 1 Diabetes.

We have been surrounded by INCREDIBLE staff in the Paediatric ICU - every single person on board has been amazing. We cannot thank you enough for helping us navigate the start of this journey - day one is now complete.

I will therefore NOT be in office for an indefinite period of time as we continue to learn and adjust to our family’s new normal. Admin and queries that are still pending will be delayed, but resolved as soon as possible.

For now, it’s business as usual and our team at Nahoon Medical Practice will continue to serve.
