This week, we want to make it more practical by discussing some common responses to reporting vs what the law actually says ⚖️

As mental health professionals, educators and even parents, knowing what the law says is essential to protecting children effectively and promptly 💚💪🏻 Here’s some common things we have heard firsthand in practice, and how you can respond to them.

Protecting children is a shared responsibility. Mandatory reporting plays a critical role in ensuring that children at risk of abuse, neglect, or harm are identified early and connected to safety and support.

This Child Protection Month, we reaffirm our commitment to creating safe spaces, advocating for children’s rights, and taking action when children need protection most. Every report has the potential to change — and even save — a child’s life. 🌱

Last Saturday, the team rolled up their sleeves and spent the day pouring love and care into the spaces where healing happens 🌿

From painting furniture and making thoughtful upgrades to our offices, to transforming our therapy garden into an even more welcoming and nurturing space — every brush stroke and every new addition was done with intention. 🎨

We want every child, family, and individual who walks through our doors to feel safe, warm, seen, and cared for. Creating spaces that feel comforting and connected is part of the heart behind the work we do every day 💚

We’re so excited to welcome a new social worker to our Rooted team this week: Carlene Winterbach!🌱

Carlene holds a Masters degree in Forensic Social Work, and will be primarily conducting forensic investigations into allegations of abuse. Her commitment to ethical, evidence-based practice and careful, child-centred assessment aligns deeply with the work we value at Rooted.

This is work that requires both clinical skill and integrity, and we are confident that Carlene will bring both in abundance. We’re truly grateful to have her on board and look forward to the meaningful difference she will make in the lives of the children and families we serve. 💚
