🏳️‍🌈 PRIDE FLAG TOUR | MPILONHLE EDITION

📍 Ladysmith, uThukela District
📅 16 September 2026

“The idea of the Pride Flag Tour challenges us to transform our communities.”

The uThukela stop brought together key stakeholders for a transformational conversation on inclusion, dignity and meaningful action.

Stakeholders included Ward Councillors, the Office of the Mayor, uThukela District Municipality, KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health – uThukela Health District, PHC Managers, Department of Social Development, Operation Sukuma Sakhe (OSS), SANCA, SANCO, community leadership, Mpilonhle, The Aurum Institute/POP INN, and LGBTQ+ community members and beneficiaries.

The flag starts the conversation, but our collective commitments must transform our communities.

7 YEARS OF MTHATHA PRIDE | COMMUNITY. SOLIDARITY. VISIBILITY.

Seven years today!

As we listened to speakers and reflected on the journey, one message remained clear: community Pride remains important.

Today, Mthatha Pride was showered with love, encouragement and solidarity from stakeholders who continue to stand alongside LGBTQIA+ communities in advancing dignity, inclusion, safety and access to services.

We were honoured to receive messages of support from:

KSD Gender Forum – LGBTQIA+ Sector
KSD Local Municipality – Social Services & Special Programmes Unit
Songe Social Change
Humana
KSD GBVF Rapid Response Team
TB HIV Care
Desmond Tutu Health Foundation
SADTU
Jersey Farm Advice & Information Centre
Mhlontlo Subdistrict LGBTQIA+ Sector
PSJ Subdistrict LGBTQIA+ Sector
The Aurum Institute – POP INN Programme

Seven years later, Mthatha Pride continues to demonstrate what is possible when communities, government, civil society and partners come together.

Pride is more than a celebration. It is a platform to be heard, to organise, to build partnerships and to remind every LGBTQIA+ person that you belong, your voice matters, and your community stands with you.

Happy 7th Mthatha Pride!

Peer Education Workshop | Vhembe West District

Takalani Naledzani, Advocacy Officer at IHPS, and Happy Phaleng from the Aurum Institute supported the Limpopo Department of Education – Vhembe West District Peer Education Workshop at Makhado CPTD.

The workshop focuses on strengthening the establishment of peer education in schools, while clarifying the roles and responsibilities of peer educators in supporting learner wellbeing.

Building partnerships. Strengthening peer education.

Our approach is rooted in inclusion and strengthening systems that respond to people holistically—recognising that learner wellbeing goes beyond health alone and includes mental, social, emotional, physical and educational needs.

African Traditional Medicine Week | Celebrating Indigenous Knowledge

This African Traditional Medicine Week, we recognise and celebrate the rich knowledge, wisdom and contribution of traditional medicine practitioners across Africa.

1.Honour indigenous knowledge.
2.Promote respectful collaboration between traditional and modern healthcare.
3.Support safe, informed and quality healthcare choices.
4.Put communities at the centre of health and wellbeing.

Traditional medicine is an important part of Africa’s healthcare landscape. Let’s continue building bridges between traditional health practitioners, communities and the formal health system to promote safe, respectful and people-centred healthcare for all.

Our health. Our heritage. Our knowledge. Our future.

NATIONAL FLAG TOUR | MANGAUNG EDITION 🏳️‍🌈

21 August 2026, Central University Of Technology Free State

Remembering those we have lost while advocating for access to quality healthcare.

In Mangaung, recommitment was also about remembrance, healing and affirmation — honouring those who have passed on while advocating for the healthcare and dignity that every person deserves.

We remember those whose lives touched our communities and whose experiences continue to remind us why the fight for quality, accessible and stigma-free healthcare must continue.

The line-up of speakers reflected the strength and diversity of the community, with voices from the Department of Health, Departmentofjustice, , faith-based leaders, students and community-based organisations

For communities that have longed for trust, support and meaningful engagement, the Flag Tour is a reaffirmation that we are listening, we are healing, and we are recommitting.

Recommitting to healthcare where everyone is treated with dignity, respect and without stigma.

We remember. We heal. We recommit. We continue the conversation.
