There’s something special about returning to where part of your story began. 💚

Last week, Dr Sibahle Ndamase celebrated her 30-year high school reunion at Clarendon High School for Girls, reconnecting with old friends and reflecting on the traditions and values that helped shape the woman and doctor she is today.

In Dr Ndamase’s own words:

“I am so proud to be part of this wonderful family, the traditions and values that helped shape me. Proud to be part of the East London community.”

Thirty years on, those roots remain an important part of her story and of her commitment to serving the community she calls home.

For some people living with leukaemia and other serious blood disorders, a stem cell transplant may form an important part of treatment.

Many patients are unable to find a suitable donor within their family and may need the help of an unrelated donor. Patients are often more likely to match with someone from a similar ethnic background.

A more diverse South African donor registry can bring hope to more patients and families.

World Lung Cancer Day (celebrated on 01 August) is a gentle reminder to pay attention to changes in our health.

Possible signs of lung cancer can include a new or worsening cough, coughing up blood, shortness of breath, ongoing chest pain, unexplained weight loss or repeated chest infections.

These symptoms can be caused by many different conditions, but if they continue, it is always worth speaking to a healthcare professional.

Cervical cancer is one of the top cancers affecting women in South Africa and has been identified as a national priority. It affects people with a cervix and is strongly linked to persistent HPV infection.
