A little sweetness, a lot of laughter, and beautiful moments of togetherness! ❤️

Our patients at Nurture Worcester enjoyed a fun-filled group activity making their very own delicious toffee apples! 🍎✨

But it was about so much more than just a sweet treat! Activities like these encourage creativity, fine motor skills, social interaction, teamwork and a sense of accomplishment — all while creating opportunities for laughter, connection and joy.

💙💛 Therapy can be meaningful AND fun! 💛💙

At Nurture Worcester, our Occupational Therapy group sessions create opportunities for patients to work towards their rehabilitation goals while connecting, laughing, encouraging one another and simply enjoying the moment. 🦋

Group therapy offers so much more than an activity. It can help promote social interaction, confidence, communication, cognitive stimulation, participation and functional independence — all within a supportive environment where patients can learn from and motivate one another.

And sometimes, a little fun is exactly what makes the hard work of rehabilitation feel a little lighter. 💙

As Mary Poppins so beautifully reminds us:

Finding His Voice Again: A Wife's Story of Hope, Resilience and Recovery at Nurture Worcester

In December 2023, my husband, Hannes van Deventer, was diagnosed with cancer affecting the left side of his tongue and lymph nodes. Following radiation and chemotherapy treatment, he went into remission for a while.

In March 2025, however, we received the devastating news that the cancer had returned. This time, it had affected his throat and the lymph nodes on the right side of his neck. Because he had already undergone radiation treatment to the neck, further radiation was not an option. As a result, Hannes underwent a tracheostomy procedure. After surgery, Hannes needed speech therapy to help him communicate in a new way.

We turned to Nurture Worcester, where speech therapist Helene began walking this journey with us.

Hannes received speech therapy once a week and with patience, encouragement and professional guidance, Helene helped Hannes regain the confidence to speak again. Just as importantly, she reminded us to stay positive and to celebrate every small milestone along the way.

A procedure like this changes your life in many ways. It requires adjustment, resilience and a willingness to embrace a different path forward.

Our message to others facing similar challenges is simple: don't withdraw from life. Face it head-on. Live fully, remain positive, and believe in yourself. Surround yourself with people who are willing to walk the journey with you, at your pace. Sometimes you need support from others, and sometimes you become that support.

Above all, be grateful for every victory, no matter how small.

💙 Advancing Safer Patient Care | Arjo Clinical Education Workshop

When memories fade, dignity must remain

World Alzheimer’s Day is a reminder that people living with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia need more than care. They need patience, understanding, routine, dignity and support from those around them.

Nurture Health raises awareness for Nurture Vereeniging at Cormed Private Hospital

Nurture Health recently visited Cormed Private Hospital for a one-day awareness event focused on Nurture Vereeniging.

Our team set up a booth to engage with doctors, medical staff, patients, and visitors who wanted to learn more about Nurture Vereeniging, our services, and the role of physical rehabilitation in supporting recovery after illness, injury, or surgery.

The day created an approachable space for conversations, questions and connection. We also handed out branded merchandise and shared information in a way that helped make physical rehabilitation easier to understand.

Walking out with confidence and a grateful heart

At 72, Mrs De Klerk’s recovery journey is a beautiful reminder that every step forward matters.

Earlier this year, she came to Nurture after a knee replacement following a fall at the airport. With support and physical rehabilitation, she recovered well and returned home.

In July, she was re-admitted for a planned total knee replacement on her left leg after experiencing osteoarthritic changes. Having already experienced the care and support at Nurture, Mrs De Klerk was happy to return.

Once again, she committed fully to her physical rehabilitation and made wonderful progress. By the time she was discharged, she walked out of the facility and went home with confidence.

Mrs De Klerk shared that she was very happy to return to Nurture and, in her own words, sad to leave.

Celebrating the people who keep healthcare connected

In celebration of Secretaries’ Day, Nurture Health, together with Netcare hospitals, hosted a series of breakfast events last week to recognise and thank the medical secretaries who play such an important role in healthcare.

From coordinating communication to supporting patients, doctors and hospital teams, their contribution helps keep care moving smoothly every day.

The events gave us the opportunity to thank secretaries, strengthen referral relationships and share more about the specialised care available at Nurture Health. One of the areas highlighted was our Specialised Ventilator Programme, which provides appropriate patients with specialised post-acute care, ventilator weaning support and coordinated physical rehabilitation.

To every medical secretary, thank you for the important work you do behind the scenes and for the role you play in supporting better patient care. A special thank you to the Netcare team for working with us to make these Secretaries’ Day events possible.
