Most men were never given a framework for emotional processing, so distress often goes underground. It doesn’t always show up as sadness - it can present as irritability, withdrawal, over-functioning, burnout, or physical symptoms.

This Men’s Health Month, the invitation is simple: don’t assume absence of expression means absence of struggle.

Check in - especially with the men who are “fine,” functioning, or never ask for help.

Checking in means signaling safety. It can sound like, “I’ve noticed you’ve had a lot on your plate recently, no need to explain anything, but I’m here if you ever want to talk.” You offer presence, not pressure. You normalize that they don’t need the right words or a clear story for you to be there for them.

A regulated, non-judgmental presence is often the real intervention.

Support helps heartbreak become witnessed, not hidden.

The end of a committed relationship can leave a person carrying grief, confusion, longing, and attachment distress in isolation. Having a safe space to speak honestly about that experience can help the loss feel less disorienting and less alone.

Our Healing from Heartbreak monthly support group is facilitated by mental health professionals and designed for adults navigating separation, breakups, or relational loss.

When a teenager is struggling, the signs don’t always look like sadness. They can look like anger, isolation, or constant exhaustion, and it can be hard to know when to step in, or how.

Our Adult-to-Adolescent Mental Health First Aid training will teach you how to recognise the signs and respond with care and understanding. You’ll learn how to:
Identify depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, and panic attacks in young people.

Approach a teenager in a way that encourages them to open up.

Create supportive environments where they feel safe to express themselves.

Mental Health First Aid is the equivalent of physical first-aid training but for mental health. This 10-hour, evidence-based course equips adults (18+) with the knowledge and skills to respond to mental health difficulties in adolescents aged 12–18. No prior experience is required.

Next training:
Date: Wed. 24th & Thurs. 25th June
Time: 9.30am-2.30pm
Location: Online via Zoom
Investment: AED 1,595 + 5% VAT

Includes: Course e-manual, e-certificate, and accreditation valid for 3 years ( 8.5 CME/CPD points from DHA)

Choosing who to trust with your inner life is a significant decision that deserves care and consideration.

It matters whether the therapist you work with is trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and able to understand the realities of living and working in this region.
At The LightHouse Arabia, therapy is grounded in safety, depth, and respect for context, because healing does not happen in isolation from history, culture, or nervous system experience.

If you’re considering therapy, take the time to ask the right questions.
And when you’re ready, we’re here to help you find the right fit.

Many men come to therapy carrying a belief: I’m not enough. Not successful enough. Not present enough. Not in control enough.

Dr. Robert Chandler, Managing Director and Clinical Psychologist at The LightHouse Arabia explains that therapy isn’t about getting rid of those feelings. It’s about learning how to face them, with honesty, curiosity, and self-respect.

When someone is in mental health distress, the first person they turn to is almost never a professional.

It’s a parent. A manager. A teacher. A friend. Whoever happens to be there.

What that person says - or doesn’t say - in those first moments can open the door to support, or quietly close it.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a globally recognized certification that prepares you for exactly those moments. You’ll learn how to:

• Recognize early signs of anxiety, depression, panic, trauma, and crisis
• Know what to say, and what not to say
• Offer immediate support and guide someone toward professional help

It’s not about becoming a therapist. It’s about making sure fewer people suffer in silence because no one around them knew what to do.

Ideal for managers, HR, educators, healthcare workers, clergy, community leaders, parents, university students, and anyone who wants to be useful when it matters.

ATTENDEES WILL LEARN:
• The concept of psychological recovery - “switching”, and its direct impact on performance, focus, and decision quality.
• Why leaders shape their team’s ability to recover, more than workload does.

• What to expect when you first start switching off.
