There are few things quite as satisfying as the end of day bra removal. 😉

But if your bra felt perfectly comfortable at 8am and by 5pm you’re desperate to get it OFF, the bra itself may not be the whole story.

Our tolerance to pressure can change when an area is already tired, irritated or sensitive. So by the end of a long day, a strap sitting across your shoulder can become the thing you notice, even though it may not be the reason your shoulder started complaining in the first place.

And that distinction matters.

Because taking that bra off might remove the irritation, but understanding why your neck, shoulders or upper back have become so easily irritated gives us a much more useful place to start.

It’s something we see regularly in the clinic. Someone comes in with neck, shoulder or upper back discomfort and has already decided it must be their bra, their pillow, their handbag or their desk. Sometimes those things are contributing, but often the more useful question is why that area has become so easily irritated in the first place.

That’s where understanding what’s actually going on can help us work out what might need to change.

So if you’re an Adelaide woman wondering why your neck or shoulders are constantly complaining, sometimes it’s worth looking beyond the obvious culprit.

Although, for the record, I am absolutely still taking the bra off. 😂

So which camp are you in? Off the SECOND you get home, or happily wearing yours until bedtime?

It’s Women’s Health Week 🌸

And this year’s theme, Do It Anyway, feels like a pretty good reminder that looking after our health doesn’t always have to mean doing more.

As a chiropractor working with women here in Adelaide, I spend a lot of time talking about health in the middle of real life. Because most of us don’t have endless time, perfect routines or an empty to do list waiting for us.

✨ Sometimes it’s getting up for the walk when your pillow is making a very convincing counterargument.

✨ Sometimes it’s resting.

✨ Sometimes it’s doing something simply because you love it.

✨ Sometimes it’s calling the friend, cuddling the puppy, or asking the question about your health that you’ve been meaning to ask.

Small things. Real life. They all matter.

So this Women’s Health Week, I’m not aiming for perfect. I’m just going to keep doing the things that help me feel good, stay connected and look after myself.

And probably drink quite a lot of coffee. ☕️😉

So what are you going to “Do It Anyway” this week? 🌸💚

Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads and Dad figures in our lives!💚

From the shortcuts and Bunnings trips to the refusal to read instructions and the remarkable ability to be “just resting my eyes”, there are some Dad idiosyncrasies that seem to be wonderfully universal. 😂

Today we celebrate the Dads, Step Dads, Grand Dads, soon to be Dads, uncles and all the wonderful men who step in, fill the gaps and are simply there when they’re needed.

We’re grateful for the lifts home, the things fixed, the advice, requested or otherwise, all those “text me when you get there” moments and, most of all, the strong hands and big hearts behind them.

Happy Father’s Day to the legends. 💚

There are so many little things we’ve somehow decided are measures of whether we’re doing health “properly”.

So let me remind you that;

✨ You don’t need perfect posture.

✨ You don’t need to hit 10,000 steps every day.

✨ You don’t need to have done every exercise I gave you.

✨ You don’t need to do everything I say.

✨ And you definitely don’t need to be able to touch your toes.

I’m much more interested in you. 😉

Are you moving? Are you getting stronger? Are you feeling better? Are we making progress towards the things that actually matter in your life?

Health isn’t a checklist, and there are no bonus points for being the perfect patient.

So come as you are. I promise, I’m not keeping score. ☺️🌸💚

Although doing some of your exercises would be nice. 😂

There’s a point in pregnancy where “just get comfortable” starts to sound like slightly ridiculous advice. 😂

Your body is changing, your bump is bigger, the position that worked a few weeks ago may suddenly not work at all… and turning over in bed has somehow become an event.

So if sleep is feeling a little more complicated at 34 weeks, you don’t necessarily need one magical pregnancy pillow or the “perfect” set-up.

Sometimes it’s simply about experimenting with support until you find what feels comfortable for YOUR body right now.

Swipe through for a few places those 47 pillows on your bed might actually be useful. 😂

And maybe save this one for bedtime.

Today we lost Dolly Parton. 🤍

There will be so much said about the songs, the rhinestones, the hair and that unmistakable laugh. But I think Dolly showed women something much bigger.

💎 That you could be strong without becoming hard.

💎 That you could be ambitious and still generous.

💎 Successful and still make room for others.

💎 Confident enough to laugh at yourself.

💎 Brave enough to dream bigger than the life you were born into.

She opened doors, and then seemed to spend a lifetime holding them open for others. And perhaps that’s why so many of her words went far beyond country music. They were funny, wise, occasionally cheeky and often exactly what you needed to hear.

These are just four of my favourites.

Thank you, Dolly, for showing generations of women that strength and softness were never opposites. And that there was absolutely nothing wrong with adding a little sparkle along the way. ✨

RIP Dolly 🤍

One of my favourite sessions at the ACA Big Tent conference last weekend was DR JOANNA MCMILLAN talking about fibre, gut health and something surprisingly simple: variety.

The idea of aiming for around 30 different plant foods across a week isn’t about becoming vegetarian, chasing a perfect diet or suddenly doubling your shopping list.

It’s really a reminder to look at what you already eat and think about where you could add a little more variety because it can make a huge difference to inflammation and your immune health.

Different vegetables, fruit, wholegrains, nuts, seeds, legumes, herbs and spices all add to the mix.

I’m definitely going to be counting mine this week. 😂

How many do you think you’d get? Come on be honest - put your numbers below! 😉🌸💚
