Integrity speaks louder than promises. Third Pillar of Mental Fitness. And in a workplace context, one of the most quietly powerful. Integrity isn't about grand gestures or values plastered on a wall. It's about alignment - between what you say and what you do. Between the culture you talk about and the one your team actually experiences. When integrity is low, people feel it before they can name it. Trust erodes. Effort drops. Good people start looking elsewhere. When integrity is high, people don't have to manage the gap between what's promised and what's real. That removes an enormous amount of mental load. Where's the gap between what your organisation promises and what your people experience? Find out more at suzievans.com

In my book Grief, I write about learning to manage my behaviours to what I felt - not suppress the feelings, not pretend they weren't there, but choose differently in how I responded to them. It took years and a lot of study to understand that this is a learnable skill. Your feelings are valid. All of them. Anger, grief, anxiety, fear, sadness - these aren't problems to be fixed. They're information. The real work is in understanding what you're doing with those feelings in the moment they arrive. Spiralling down is always an option. But so is something different. I wrote this in my book and I still come back to it: we always have a choice to spiral up or spiral down in our thinking. What feeling are you sitting with today? You don't have to have it sorted. Just notice it. suzievans.com/workbench

People often say, "You're so resilient."

But have you ever wondered whether you're resilient... or simply exhausted?

Many people have spent years navigating challenge after challenge. They continue showing up, meeting responsibilities, and doing what needs to be done.

From the outside, they appear to be coping.

But inside, they may feel emotionally flat, disconnected, or simply tired.

In this episode of Workbench for the Mind, I explore the hidden cost of always coping and why functioning isn't always the same as wellbeing.

We've built entire workplace cultures around the idea that pressure produces performance. It does. For a while. Sustained high performance - the kind that holds under real conditions, not just easy ones - comes from clarity. Clarity about what matters. Clarity about your own responses. Clarity about what you need and when to ask for it. When people operate from pressure, they manage. When they operate from clarity, they lead. This is the first Pillar of Mental Fitness: Clarity creates confidence. Where in your work right now do you most need clarity? Start building it at suzievans.com/workbench

Recent research shows that many Australians are feeling more stressed than they were this time last year.

While it's encouraging that more people are seeking support, it's also a reminder that mental fitness matters.

This week, take a few moments to pause.

ā˜€ļø Sit in the sunshine
ā˜• Enjoy a quiet cup of tea
🌿 Step outside for some fresh air
šŸ’› Give yourself space to reflect and reset

You can't control everything happening around you, but you can create small moments that help you manage how you respond.

Sometimes just a few quiet minutes can make all the difference.

Friday morning on the farm. The paddocks are quiet at this time of year and the air has that winter bite that reminds you everything slows down eventually. I've been thinking a lot about rest this week. Not the productivity-hack version. Real rest. In my book Grief I write about the 1% principle - just 14 minutes a day, 1% of your 24 hours, set aside to process and acknowledge what you're feeling. Journaling. Walking. Sitting quietly. Something that brings you back to yourself. Most of my corporate clients tell me their people have no time for that. I get it. But when that 1% never happens, the costs show up somewhere else. Mistakes. Conflict. People checking out. What's your 1% today? Find the tools at suzievans.com/workbench
