One of the most valuable things you can do for a neurodivergent child is learn more about how they experience the world.

Understanding ADHD, autism and other forms of neurodivergence can help parents look beyond behaviour and recognise what their child may be communicating or finding difficult.

The right strategies will be different for every child. Support might involve adapting routines, reducing sensory overwhelm, developing communication or emotional regulation skills, working with their school, or simply finding new ways to build on their strengths.

Education is an important part of early intervention too. The more parents and caregivers understand about neurodivergence, the better equipped they are to recognise their child’s needs and advocate for appropriate support.

First Choice Allied Health is committed to helping families build this understanding through our allied health services and community education. Following our recent Melbourne ADHD workshop, our next ADHD workshop will be held in Sydney on 5 September, providing families with practical information and strategies they can use in everyday life.

Every child develops differently, but sometimes parents notice that their child experiences the world a little differently.

They may have ongoing challenges with attention, communication, learning, emotional regulation, sensory experiences or social situations. Or perhaps you simply have a feeling that your child needs some extra support.

Neurodivergence can include ADHD, autism and other differences in the way a person thinks, learns, communicates and processes the world around them.

If you have concerns, seeking advice early can make a real difference. Early identification and support can help you better understand your child’s individual strengths and needs and put helpful strategies in place at home, school and in everyday life.

The First Choice Team are incredibly proud of the free Let's Chat ADHD! workshop presented last Saturday at the Bowery Theatre and St Albans Community Centre.

The workshop provided a thorough introduction to ADHD, practical strategies for parents to use, and lots of time for audience questions and contributions.

We thank Richard and Melanie for presenting, and also Anh, Hong, Karen and Uyen for their background support. What a wonderful event that we hope will be very helpful for the attendees who were a mix of English and Vietnamese speakers.

Next stop will be Sydney on Saturday, 5 September. 🛩️

The First Choice Team came together last Friday to celebrate the clinic’s 11th birthday, along with some other special milestones.

The celebrations included a delicious dinner at Marameo in the city, where the team enjoyed an amazing array of pasta dishes. And, as is always the case with a First Choice get-together, the evening was made even more entertaining with games and some healthy competition!

There was plenty to celebrate, including welcoming three new team members: Karen, Emily and Katie, Phoebe’s two-year anniversary with First Choice, Miza’s birthday, and farewelling some valued team members as they move on to their next chapters.

A special thank you to Anh and Jada for all their hard work in making the celebrations such a wonderful occasion, and to Mai and Hong for treating the team to a lovely evening. ❤️
