🏡✨ International Homebirth Day | June 6
Today we acknowledge and celebrate International Homebirth Day—a day dedicated to raising awareness of homebirth as a valid birthplace option and recognising the families and midwives who choose and support this model of care.
In Australia, planned homebirth remains a small but growing choice. Recent national data shows that approximately 0.7% of births occur as planned homebirths with a healthcare professional in attendance, more than double the proportion reported just a few years ago.
For many families, homebirth represents more than a location. It can be about continuity of care, informed decision-making, autonomy, comfort, and being supported in an environment where they feel safe.
International Homebirth Day is not about comparing birth settings. It is about recognising that every family deserves access to evidence-informed information, respectful care, and genuine choice when planning their birth experience.
Today we celebrate the families who have chosen homebirth, the babies born into loving homes, and the midwives whose skill, dedication, and advocacy make this option possible.
✨ Honouring birth choices.
✨ Celebrating midwifery care.
✨ Supporting informed decision-making.

Anchoring: your calm in the middle of labour 🤍
Labour can feel intense—but your mind is powerful.

Anchoring is a simple technique that helps you come back to calm, focus, and control by connecting a feeling (like safety or strength) to a trigger (like touch, sound, or breath).

Think:
• A hand on your heart
• A calming word or sound
• A familiar scent
• A soft image or visual
• A grounding breath or visualisation

When practiced before birth, these become your “go-to” tools—helping your body soften, open, and work with labour, not against it.

✨ You don’t need to figure it all out alone.
Inside my birth preparation sessions, we gently practice tools like this so they feel natural, familiar, and truly supportive on the day.

If you’re wanting to feel calm, confident, and prepared—you’re so welcome to explore it when it feels right 🤍

Birth isn’t something that begins in a place…
It begins within you 🤍

In your thoughts.
In your beliefs.
In the way you’ve been taught to see birth.

So many women are preparing their bodies for birth…
but no one has shown them how to prepare their mind.

And yet—this is where everything shifts.

When you feel safe, informed, and supported…
your body responds.
Your confidence grows.
Your experience changes.

This is why we start here.
With the foundation.
With your mindset.

Because you deserve to walk into your birth feeling calm, capable, and deeply supported—wherever and however your baby is born 🤍

If this speaks to you, I’d love to guide you through the rest of your birth preparation journey.
Send me a message or comment “READY” and I’ll be in touch ✨

Most women are told monitoring in labour is about “safety”…
But rarely told there are different ways to do it—and trade-offs with each.

Intermittent listening gives you more freedom.
Continuous CTG gives more data.

But here’s the part that might surprise you:
Serious complications in labour are rare—less than 1%.

And despite how common monitoring is…
👉 We don’t actually have clear evidence that more monitoring always improves outcomes.

This isn’t about rejecting monitoring.
It’s about understanding your options so you can make decisions that feel right for YOU.

Save this for later & share with someone planning their birth đź’›

If you could choose one word to carry into your birth, what would it be?

Calm?
Strong?
Safe?

As a midwife, I’ve seen how powerful the RIGHT WORDS can be in labour - not because they control birth, but because they support the nervous system to feel safe, grounded, and capable.

🩶 For Mother’s Day, I’m gifting one person my Create Your Own Birth Affirmation Card Kit.

A way to turn your words into something you can hold onto in labour.

My why… I do what I do.
I do this gig not for the cards or gifts (though, I’m truly grateful), but to actually make a difference during someone’s pregnancy journey. Whether it’s consistent care, or prepping people with birth education, it’s all about knowing that, when we’re done, I’ve helped them navigate this whole system in a chill, positive way.
