A snake doesn't hear — it feels sound through its jaw. 🐍
Ball pythons have no outer or middle ear. Vibrations travel from the ground through the jawbone and quadrate bone directly to the inner ear. They detect sub-nanometre ground movement — like a mouse's footstep nearby.
Their 'hearing' is tuned to ground vibrations roughly 100–700 Hz. No airborne sound needed.
🐍 A jaw that doubles as a seismograph! Do you think this counts as 'real' hearing?
