Winter conditions can make contact lenses feel less comfortable.

Dry air, indoor heating and reduced humidity can affect how your lenses sit on the eye, often leading to dryness, irritation or reduced clarity.

Spending more time indoors, combined with increased screen use, can also contribute to eye fatigue and discomfort when wearing lenses.

Simple steps like using lubricating drops, limiting direct heat, taking regular breaks from screens and work and maintaining good lens hygiene can help support comfort throughout the day.

Being mindful of these seasonal changes can help keep your lenses comfortable and your vision clear during the colder months.

When did you last check in on your macula?

May is Macula Month, a reminder to prioritise your eye health.

The macula plays a key role in how we see fine detail, from reading and recognising faces to everyday tasks.

Changes can happen gradually, often without noticeable symptoms early on.

Regular eye examinations are an important part of maintaining eye health.

May is Macula Month, so we thought we'd take the time to shine a light on macular disease.

The most common macular diseases are age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic eye disease, including diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular oedema. Macular disease is the leading cause of blindness and severe vision loss in Australia, affecting an estimated 1.9 million Australians.

You can have early signs of macular disease without knowing it. However, when symptoms do appear, they can include:

- Difficulty reading
- Vision distortion
- Dark patches in the central vision

If you notice any of these symptoms, you should make an appointment with us for an eye exam. Early detection and prompt intervention are crucial to saving sight. Together, we can raise awareness and make a difference!

May is Macula Awareness Month!

Macular degeneration is a condition that affects the macula, the part of the eye responsible for central vision. It causes blurred or distorted vision, making everyday tasks like reading or driving difficult. Without treatment, the condition can worsen over time, leading to vision loss.

Early detection is key — a simple eye exam can help in the fight against macular degeneration. Don’t wait, check in on your loved ones and schedule an eye exam to help combat macular degeneration!
