Potential food triggers for fibromyalgia pain ✴️

✋ Before I get into the list — an important caveat. Fibromyalgia is deeply individual. Not everyone will react to the foods below, and there may be other foods not on this list that are a problem for you specifically. These are simply the common culprits I see clinically and that appear in the research.

✴️ Wheat or gluten
✴️ Lactose & dairy
✴️ MSG & artificial sweeteners
✴️ Sugar & refined carbohydrates
✴️ Caffeine
✴️ Animal fats (in high amounts)

Please don't race off and cut all of these out at once! Working with a nutritionist or naturopath who understands fibromyalgia means you can go through an elimination process safely — and actually get a clear picture of what's affecting you and what isn't.

We talk a lot about vitamin D… but what actually matters is your levels.

Most labs will say anything above 50 nmol/L is “sufficient”
But in practice, that’s often not enough for optimal immune function.

👉 I generally like to see levels closer to 75–100 nmol/L (or slightly higher depending on the individual)

Because vitamin D plays a key role in:
• Regulating your immune system
• Reducing risk of colds & flus
• Supporting appropriate inflammatory responses
• Helping modulate overactive immune conditions (like autoimmune conditions)

And coming into winter… this becomes even more important.

Those most at risk of low vitamin D:
• Limited sun exposure (especially in winter)
• Indoor workers
• People with darker skin
• Those who wear full skin coverage
• Older adults
• People with gut issues or malabsorption
• Chronic illness / autoimmune conditions

If you’re not sure where your levels are sitting, it’s a simple blood test to check.

And if you’re already being told your levels are “fine”… it’s worth asking what number that actually is.

Because “normal” and “optimal” aren’t always the same thing.

Small sustainable changes = long term outcomes💪

Supporting your mind and body doesn't have to look like an overhaul of your whole life.

Start with one or two things that feel manageable and realistic for you to implement today.

No habit changes too small
• an extra glass of water 💧
• an extra veggie at dinner 🥦
• A little more protein with breakfast 🍳
• A 2 -minute check-in or mindfulness practice🧘‍♀️
• going to bed 15 minutes earlier 💤

All these things count and their accumulative impact can be profound over time.
