Today, Access Recreation proudly came together to support Jeans for Genes Day, an annual event that raises awareness for children and families affected by genetic conditions.

Jeans for Genes Day raises vital funds for research into childhood genetic diseases, helping scientists work towards better treatments, earlier diagnoses and brighter futures for children and their families. Every conversation, donation and show of support helps make a difference.

Our staff and participants enjoyed a fantastic lunch with a BBQ sausage sizzle, games, music, and each other’s company, all while wearing our favourite pair of jeans!

Seeking Co-Tenant for a Supported Independent Living (SIL) House

Access Recreation is seeking a suitable co-tenant for a young adult male who is preparing to transition into a new Supported Independent Living (SIL) home in Bundaberg.

We are looking for a participant who would be compatible with a friendly young man who enjoys:
β€’ Community access and getting out and about.
β€’ Walking and exploring familiar places.
β€’ Gaming, movies and YouTube.
β€’ Social activities, humour and spending time with others.
β€’ A predictable and supportive home environment.

The ideal co-tenant would benefit from a calm, respectful household and be someone who values:
βœ” Respect for personal space and privacy.
βœ” Shared living with clear routines and expectations.
βœ” Positive relationships and social connection.
βœ” A supportive environment that encourages independence.

Features of the support environment include:
β€’ 24/7 support available
β€’ Experienced and compassionate support staff
β€’ Structured daily needs
β€’ Personalised, participant-led supports
β€’ Safe, welcoming home environment
β€’ Encouraging independence and life skills
β€’ Community access and social engagement

Access Recreation is committed to ensuring the transition is carefully planned, person-centred and focused on compatibility, with consideration given to each participant’s needs, preferences and support requirements.

If you know of a participant who may be interested and feel they may be a suitable match, please contact Access Recreation to discuss further.

Access Recreation was proud to take part in the NAIDOC Celebration Day as a community stall holder at Alexandra Park.

Our Service Manager, Celine, and Support Worker, Gil, enjoyed spending the day connecting with the community, sharing information about the supports and services we offer.

Our Free To Be Me group embraced the celebrations by creating NAIDOC-inspired crafts before watching an educational video to learn more about the meaning of NAIDOC Week, its history, and why it is celebrated. The group then headed to our local shopping centre to visit Bluey bringing plenty of smiles, laughter, and fun!

NAIDOC Week is an important opportunity to come together, learn, listen, and recognise the strength, resilience, and contributions of First Nations peoples. We are grateful to have been part of such a meaningful community celebration.
