What I love about being a naturopath after nearly 10 years in practice

🫶 No two days and no two treatment plans are ever the same.
Every person who walks through the door has a completely different health story.

🫶 Digging deep into someone’s health.
Not just looking at what symptoms someone has, but asking why they may be happening. Connecting the dots between hormones, digestion, nutrient status, stress, sleep, thyroid function and everything in between.

🫶 Access to in-depth testing.
Alongside comprehensive pathology testing, I get to work with a wide range of functional testing such as gut microbiome, organic acids, heavy metals, DUTCH, genetics, mould screening and more. These can help provide answers for when everything on paper looks ‘fine’.

🫶 The continuous learning.
It honestly never stops. Health is such a huge field, research continues to evolve and there are so many incredible practitioners to learn from. Nearly 10 years in and I’m still constantly learning and feel like I never know enough.

🫶 The people I get to meet.
I’ve met so many beautiful people through my clinic over the years. I often start by seeing one person and before long I’m supporting their partner, mum, sister, children or friends too.

🫶 Educating my clients.
I want my clients to understand their body, their results and why we’re doing what we’re doing. Health information can feel overwhelming, so I always try to make it practical and meet each person wherever they’re at in their health journey.

🫶 Working with women through so many different stages of life.
From fertility and pregnancy to postpartum, hormonal changes and beyond. It’s a privilege to support women through some of the biggest transitions in their lives.

🫶 Being part of someone’s health journey over the years.
There’s something really special about supporting someone through different seasons of life. Some clients I’ve now had the privilege of knowing and supporting for years and I have watched their health evolve so much in this time.

I’ve been well overdue for my annual bloods so I done a comprehensive panel privately through imedical ($298) testing nutrients, metabolic markers and hormones.
I’ve attached most of them here. Overall they were better than i was expecting with the main findings being low iron, and high end DHEAs (a weak androgen).

What will I do from here?

For iron I’ll likely do a combo of an iron glycinate + floradix as I find my body responds best to this.
I’ll bring back in chlorophyll for my high end anion + it can also help iron absorption.
And I’ll look at adding in a herbal tonic using some adaptogens and other herbs to bring down my DHEAs.

I am also in the process of getting my root canal out which I wish I did many years ago as I believe that has been driving my higher white cell count due to recent oral microbiome testing showing multiple infections present.

If you have any questions about my bloods or other pathology markers drop it below.
I love answering these sorts of questions 🧠

Painful periods are common. But significant period pain shouldn’t automatically be dismissed as normal.

When pain is severe, worsening, or interfering with everyday life, it’s worth looking deeper.

What can contribute to painful periods?

• Higher prostaglandin activity: can cause stronger uterine contractions, cramping, nausea, diarrhoea and headaches
• Endometriosis: particularly when pain is severe, progressive or occurs outside your period
• Adenomyosis: often associated with painful, heavy periods and pelvic pressure
• Fibroids: may contribute to heavy bleeding, pelvic pressure and cramping
• Ovarian cysts: particularly when pain is one-sided or occurs at other points in the cycle
• Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID): can cause pelvic pain, painful s*x and abnormal bleeding/discharge
• Copper IUD
• Gut dysbiosis
• High oestrogen levels
• Stress
• Inflammatory diet

Signs I’d want to investigate:

→ Pain that stops you working, exercising or carrying out normal activities
→ Regularly needing strong pain relief to get through your period
→ Pain that has progressively become worse
→ Very heavy bleeding, flooding or large clots
→ Pain with s*x
→ Pain with bowel movements or urination, particularly around your period
→ Significant pelvic pain between periods
→ Difficulty conceiving
→ New or significant changes to your cycle

How to support your period pain:
• Heat therapy: a heat pack over the lower abdomen can help relax uterine muscle and reduce pain
• TENS: can be particularly useful for managing moderate–severe cramping and offers a non-drug pain-management option
• Acupuncture: may help reduce menstrual pain and associated symptoms for some women
• Castor oil packs: this can be used between periods for pelvic comfort and relaxation.
• Magnesium: may support muscle relaxation and prostaglandin regulation
• Omega-3 fatty acids: may help modulate inflammatory prostaglandins and reduce menstrual pain
• Ginger
• Curcumin/turmeric
• PEA
• Regular movement: walking, strength training, yoga or other regular exercise

Save this post if painful periods are something you’ve been putting up with each month.

The most common pathology findings of PMOS/PCOS

👉 High LH/FSH ratio.
LH is usually at least 2-3x higher than FSH
👉 Low SHBG
👉 High insulin
👉 High testosterone, free testosterone and/or free androgen index
👉 High AMH for your age group
👉 High oestrogen in luteal phase of your menstrual cycle
👉 High DHEAs

Have you been told you have PMOS/PCOS and know where your drivers are coming from? If not, I recommend that you get your doctor to request the blood tests listed in this post.

No 2 treatments are the same for PCOS as there are so many underlying drivers to take into consideration. This is why some standard PCOS/PMOS targeted supplements may not work for you. I have seen this time and time again in clinic.
