We're proud to share that Annette Blunt, General Manager at Somerville Community Services, was recently a guest speaker on CPA Australia NT's Meet the CPA: Guest Series.

The monthly series brings together influential leaders from across business, finance, leadership and academia to share their career journeys, leadership insights and perspectives on today's professional landscape.

The session was live-streamed to an audience of more than 400 viewers worldwide, providing an opportunity for Annette to share her leadership experience and discuss the important work being undertaken at Somerville to support people with disability across the Northern Territory.

At Somerville, we value opportunities to contribute to conversations that strengthen leadership, encourage collaboration and promote the vital role of the community services sector. We congratulate Annette on representing our organisation and helping to raise the profile of disability services through this engaging discussion.

Last week, members of our team had the opportunity to participate in a PATH (Planning Alternative Tomorrows with Hope) planning session, facilitated by Inclusion Northern Territory

PATH is a person-centred planning approach that brings people together to explore strengths, dreams and aspirations, while creating a shared vision for the future. It encourages collaboration, meaningful conversations and practical steps towards achieving positive outcomes.

It was an inspiring session filled with great ideas, shared learning and a strong sense of teamwork. We look forward to building on the conversations and continuing to create opportunities that empower people with disability to lead fulfilling and meaningful lives.

A big thank you to Inclusion Northern Territory for facilitating such an engaging and valuable session. We appreciate your support and look forward to continuing to work together.

At Somerville, we're proud to celebrate the dedication, resilience and determination of our team, both in and out of the workplace.

A huge congratulations to three of our incredible team members who recently challenged themselves on the road:

👏 Meg achieved an outstanding result in the Darwin Half Marathon, finishing as the 3rd female overall with an impressive time of 1 hour and 42 minutes.

👏 Alyssa showed remarkable determination by signing up just four days before the event and completing the half marathon with minimal training, a fantastic achievement that demonstrates perseverance and courage.

👏 Natasha, our CEO, completed the Cairns Marathon, taking on the full 42.2-kilometre challenge.

Whether it's leading an organisation, supporting participants, or crossing a finish line, these achievements reflect the commitment, resilience and determination that our people bring to everything they do.

Congratulations, Natasha, Meg and Alyssa! Thank you for inspiring us all to set goals, embrace challenges and celebrate what we're capable of achieving. 💙

💙 World Drowning Prevention Day 💙

Today, on World Drowning Prevention Day, we join communities around the world in raising awareness that drowning is preventable.

Living in the Northern Territory, many of us enjoy spending time in and around water. Whether it's at the beach, the river, a pool or out on the boat, taking simple precautions can make all the difference.

This is a timely reminder to:
💦 Always supervise children around water.
🦺 Wear a lifejacket when boating or fishing.
🏊 Learn to swim and build water confidence.
❤️ Learn CPR—it could help save a life.
🌊 Know the conditions before entering the water.

Somerville was proud to be part of this year's Katherine Show, connecting with participants, families, carers and the wider community.

Our team enjoyed welcoming visitors to our stall, sharing information about our services, catching up with familiar faces, and meeting new people from across the region. It was also fantastic to see many of our participants out enjoying the show, taking in the attractions, entertainment and community spirit that make this event such a highlight on the Katherine calendar.

Events like the Katherine Show provide wonderful opportunities to strengthen community connections, celebrate inclusion, and showcase the support available to Territorians living with disability.

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello, and to our amazing Katherine team for representing Somerville with such enthusiasm and dedication.

On her way to visit her niece, Maureen took a moment to stop and admire the historical photographs displayed throughout Katherine District Hospital.

As she looked at each image, she shared memories, reflected on the past, and reminisced about people, places and moments that have shaped her life.

Sometimes, the simplest moments spark the most meaningful conversations.

As NAIDOC Week 2026 comes to a close, we reflect on a week filled with connection, learning and celebration.

This year's theme, "50 Years of Deadly," celebrates the strength, resilience, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples over the past five decades, while honouring those who have kept culture strong for generations.

Across Somerville Community Services, our participants, staff and communities came together in a range of meaningful activities to celebrate NAIDOC Week.

In Katherine, participants enjoyed a wonderful Family Fun Day and the opportunity to learn about local bush tucker with Manuel and his family from Dalabon. Together, they shared stories while making damper, cooking barramundi and kangaroo tail, and learning more about the rich knowledge and traditions of Country.

In Darwin, participants and staff attended a special screening of Croker Island Exodus at the Deckchair Cinema. The documentary holds a special connection to Somerville, telling the remarkable story of our founder, Margaret Somerville, who courageously led 95 Aboriginal children to safety from Croker Island during World War II. It was a powerful evening of reflection, history and resilience.

At Sanctuary Lakes in Palmerston, staff and participants came together for a community BBQ, sharing conversation and celebrating the rich histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It was wonderful to be joined by CJ, a member of the Somerville Community Services Board, for this special occasion.

At Somerville, we know that recognising and celebrating First Nations cultures is not limited to one week. We remain committed to listening, learning, building respectful relationships, and creating opportunities for people to connect with culture, community and Country throughout the year.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated, shared their knowledge, and helped make this year's NAIDOC Week celebrations so meaningful.
