Parallel play for autistic people is the most beautiful way to connect with others. It’s NOT sitting across from someone using eye contact and making reciprocal conversation… it’s enjoying being their favourite selves while being next to someone else, who is also enjoying being their favourite selves. It’s not less than.

Jade and Bri presented at the ANU today, on working with autistic children and their families from a neurodiversity affirming lens. What a joy it is to present lived experience (as an autistic-allistic team) with their clinical and research knowledge, to connect with baby psychs.

Where did you learn most of your knowledge about Neuroaffirming practice?? Let us know below!👇

Therapists gotta regulate to stay present with their clients!!!! Today I made most of this in session while my client explored their own creature, and decided to finish it off post session for that sense of closure and post-session regulation.

Having something to do with your hands is an incredible way to regulate, process, and keep you grounded. There is hardly hardly hardly ever a session I do with kids where I don’t give them something to do with their hands, and actually, for most adults too.

What’s your favourite unconventional way to regulate?

“Don’t go into business with your friends!”They said.

“Most new business only last 2 years!” They said.

Well here we are, almost 3 years in, and still able to enjoy a picnic in the park with no shop talk.

This is Bri typing (and who you will mostly see behind this account) - on the left. I’m the unhinged creative one with too many ideas. Jade is in the middle of the photo, and holds us together with her practical skills, creativity, and warmth. Emily on the right has her feet on the ground and reminds us both where the ground is. What a dream team. We’re the co-directors of The Psych Hive, it’s nice to be in community with you 💜

Please say hi below. If we know you, we love hearing from you. If we don’t know you, introduce yourself!!

Any one else notice the tug of war between autism taking careful note, remembering the details, and focusing on what’s needed… vs ADHD just living it up moment by moment?

Yep, me too.

This clip represents some of the favourite parts of our work. Not just the working creatively with neurodivergent kids part, but the sharing with other therapists, and chance to teach what we’ve learned and are learning part.

Working with neurodivergent kiddos is a real honour… but doing it creatively in play and in a language they speak, that’s the real sweet spot!

Here’s a glimpse into a recent presentation we did, and had a blast with. Reach out for individual or group supervision, check with website for upcoming trainings, or if you’re interested in hosting us do a workshop or presentation for your organisation, get in touch.

Embrace the mess!

Just soak this in with me….

This weekend, I’m releasing a podcast a day over Easter, to celebrate in my own way.

Friday release: Em from NeuroWild talking about advocacy and rewriting the rules.

Saturday release: Laetitia from Understanding Zoe talking about AuDHD and the parts of us loved and dismissed.

Sunday release: Adina from Differently Aligned Business Coaching and Play. Learn. Chat talking about making your business work for your brain.

Monday release: Caitlin from Cathartic Collaborations talking about multi-exceptional AuDHDers.

I am so grateful for these humans sharing their time and wisdom with me, and with us! Get bingeing!
