🫧 Pyjama Day Fun at First5Years! 🫧

What a wonderful day we had celebrating Pyjama Day at First5Years! Dressed in our comfiest PJs, the children enjoyed a magical bubble dance party outdoors, chasing, popping and watching bubbles float through the beautiful winter sunshine. ☀️🫧

The day was filled with laughter, movement and imaginative play as the children explored, danced and played together. Experiences like these support gross motor development, coordination, confidence and social connections while creating joyful childhood memories.

A big thank you to all of our wonderful families for helping make Pyjama Day so special by sending the children in their favourite pyjamas. We hope everyone had as much fun as we did! 💜

Yesterday, our outdoor space was filled with muddy puddles, laughter and endless exploration! 🤎💦

With a little water, some buckets and plenty of imagination, the children worked together to create their own muddy puddles. What began as a simple idea quickly turned into an afternoon of exploration, experimentation and sensory discovery.

As the children scooped, poured, splashed, mixed and stomped through the mud, they were developing so much more than just muddy feet! They were:
🤎 Strengthening fine and gross motor skills.
💦 Investigating cause and effect as they experimented with water and soil.
🪣 Developing problem-solving skills as they worked out how to make bigger puddles and thicker mud.
👣 Exploring different textures through hands and bare feet, supporting sensory development.
🤝 Building communication, cooperation and teamwork as they shared resources and ideas.
🌱 Using their creativity and imagination to extend the play in their own unique ways.

At First5Years, we value experiences like these because we know that some of the richest learning happens when children are given the time, freedom and opportunity to follow their own ideas. Yesterday's muddy adventure was a wonderful reminder that learning doesn't always happen at a table—it often happens with muddy hands, dirty clothes and huge smiles.

Sometimes the messiest days are the most meaningful. 🥰🤎

🌟 Supporting Child Safety Across Our Community 🌟

Wednesday, Miss Billie and Miss Laura had the privilege of attending a very special Child Safe Workshop at Denison State School, presented by Caroline Blackley.

This valuable workshop provided an opportunity to unpack the 10 Child Safe Standards and deepen our understanding of the important role we play in creating safe, inclusive, and supportive environments for all children. We explored practical strategies, reflected on best practice, and strengthened our knowledge of how we can continue to uphold children's rights, wellbeing, and safety every day.

It was wonderful to see other members of the Emerald community in attendance, all coming together with a shared commitment to protecting and supporting children. Seeing local organisations, educators, community groups, and leaders prioritising child safety highlights just how important this work is and reinforces the collective responsibility we all have in creating child-safe environments.

A big thank you to Denison State School for hosting this important event and providing the opportunity for our community to learn, collaborate, and grow together.

💜 Safe Children. Strong Communities. Every Child. Every Day. 💜

🚔🚑 Happy First Responders Day! 🚑🚔

Today we had the privilege of welcoming some very special visitors to our service as we celebrated the incredible work of our first responders.

Sergeant and her fellow police officers spent time with the children talking about the important role police play in keeping our community safe. The children were fascinated as they demonstrated some of their equipment and shared a little about the super cool things Sergeant Renee gets to do as part of her role.

The children loved getting hands-on with the police equipment, trying on parts of the police uniform and protective gear, exploring the police vehicles, and even sitting in the back of the police car! One of the biggest highlights was watching the fingerprint dusting demonstration and seeing fingerprints magically appear before their eyes. The children were also interested in learning about some of the specialist tools police officers use in their work each day.

Our local paramedics also joined us and taught the children about the important role they play in helping people during emergencies. The children had the opportunity to explore some of the equipment carried in the ambulance, learn how it is used, and even sit on the ambulance bed. There were lots of questions, excitement, and smiles as the children discovered how paramedics help keep our community safe and healthy.

Of course, one of the favourite moments of the day was hearing the sirens from both the police cars and the ambulance!

Experiences like these provide valuable opportunities for children to connect with community helpers, build confidence, ask questions, and develop an understanding of the important roles people play within our community.

A huge thank you to Sergeant Renee, the Queensland Police Service officers, and the paramedics for taking the time to visit us and create such a memorable learning experience for our children. ❤️💙
