See our Mixed Bag group out at Court Action Driving Range! ⛳

The group engaged in a active morning out, moving their bodies, learning a new skill/sport and catching up with friends from near and far.

There was lots of laughter, sunshine, and smiles. A great morning out indeed!

We recently presented a $1,000 cheque to Emerald's Breast and Prostate Cancer Association of Queensland committee and the longest-standing and one of the most active BPCAQ committees in the state.

Over 20+ years they've raised more than $500,000 for local patients and funded professional development for cancer nurses across the region. Proud to back a committee doing this much for Central Highlands.

Years In The Making!

After a horse-riding accident at 20, it's taken John more than 40 years to move into a home of his own. With SDA and SIL funding, Support Coordinator Donna, and a dedicated team behind him, John and his flatmate Paul are now living on their own terms — fresh home-cooked meals, Wi-Fi, visits from family, and real choice. "They made it all possible," says John.

Recipe cards, biscuit blends, and a lot of laughter, Yumba Bimbi's Baking Program is cooking up more than treats.

Led by Senior Support Worker Steph, participants are building money handling, decision-making, and fine motor skills, while choosing their own recipe twists alongside their mates. "I like seeing my friends and getting to cook food with different people," says Eddie.

For decades, Peter Bailey gave to his Emerald community, through Rotary, the golf club, and volunteering. Since his Parkinson's diagnosis, he's now on the receiving end of that same generosity, working with Support Coordinator Katrina to get the equipment and allied health support he needs.

Pete's philosophy hasn't changed - "What you give comes back." He was recently named Emerald Citizen of the Year, a fitting nod to someone who's never stopped showing up.

An Update on Yumba Brew ☕

After careful consideration, the Board and Leadership Team have made the difficult decision to close Yumba Brew at the end of September.

Yumba Brew was established with a clear purpose: to create meaningful employment and training opportunities for people with disability while providing a welcoming space for our community. We are incredibly proud of what has been achieved through the café and of the impact it has had on employees, customers and the wider community.

This decision has not been made lightly. While the social outcomes achieved through Yumba Brew have been significant, the business is no longer financially sustainable in its current form. Following extensive review, we have determined that closure is the most responsible course of action.

We remain firmly committed to creating inclusive employment opportunities and will continue to explore and invest in initiatives that support people with disability to develop skills, gain experience and achieve their employment goals.

We would like to sincerely thank everyone who has supported Yumba Brew throughout its journey. In particular, we extend our appreciation to Direct Chemist Outlet Emerald for their partnership and support, and to Emerald Toyota for their valued contribution to the success of the initiative and the opportunities it created for our employees and participants.

We also thank our employees, customers, supporters, and community members who have been part of the Yumba Brew story.
