Raising awareness and reducing stigma, one conversation at a time.
This GambleAware Week, Fair Foundations joined the GambleAware Week Working Group for an interactive art event in Fairfield.
Together, we had over 40 conversations with community members directly or indirectly affected by gambling harm. We shared information about available support and created space to discuss the social, emotional, financial and family impacts.
An interactive installation by artivist Nelson Nghe featured vending machine capsules filled with pompoms made by Fair Foundations sewing group, each representing individuals and families in Fairfield affected by gambling harm, as well as a lolly-machine activity encouraging people to pause and learn, each spin offering a lolly alongside a “Did you know?” fact about gambling harm. Every conversation led to an opportunity to build understanding, reduce stigma and remind people that support is available, and through creativity and connection, the event encouraged open discussion and helped make pathways to support more visible.
Thank you to our event partners: South Western Sydney Local Health District, GambleAware NSW, GambleAware Multicultural Services, City Council, Woodville Alliance, The Parks Community Network Inc, CORE Community, and Oakdene House as well as Nelson Nghe and our sewing group for their dedication and contribution to the artwork.
