This week is NAIDOC Week, a time to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. At Cura Day Hospitals Group, we acknowledge this year’s theme and its focus on strength, connection and cultural continuity, aligned with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) Patient Care Guidelines and our commitment to culturally safe, respectful and person-centred care.

For five decades, NAIDOC Week has elevated the voices of communities, honouring Elders, celebrating culture and recognising the resilience and leadership of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It reminds us of the importance of listening, learning and embedding culturally capable practices that recognise the holistic nature of health, including connection to Country, family and community.

NAIDOC is more than a week. It reinforces our shared responsibility to deliver care that is respectful, culturally safe and responsive to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Through our ATSI Patient Care Guidelines, we continue to strengthen our approach, ensuring every patient interaction reflects dignity, understanding and connection.

June is Cataract Awareness Month, a timely reminder that cataracts are one of the leading causes of vision loss and affect around half of all Australians over the age of 50. While common, cataracts are highly treatable, with surgery proven to restore sight for most people.

At Cura Day Hospitals Group, cataract surgery is one of the most frequently performed procedures across our hospitals. We work closely with leading cataract surgeons and use modern, state‑of‑the‑art equipment to ensure patients receive high‑quality, personalised care.

Our experienced clinical teams support patients at every stage of their cataract surgery journey, prioritising comfort, safety and positive outcomes to help improve quality of life.

If you’re experiencing changes in your vision, we encourage you to arrange an eye examination with your optometrist or GP.

Today we recognise Hand Hygiene Day at Victoria Parade Surgery Centre.

Last Week, Ecolab worked directly with our teams on site, using BlueMirror AI technology to demonstrate correct hand hygiene techniques and provide real‑time, practical feedback in a clinical setting.

This hands‑on approach reinforces the importance of best‑practice hand hygiene and supports our staff to translate guidelines into everyday practice.

Through initiatives like this, we are strengthening awareness, improving compliance and supporting safer care for our patients and teams.

This Falls Awareness Month, we’re raising awareness about falls prevention and supporting those at risk.

After surgery or a procedure, falls can happen more easily due to factors like:
🔹 Poor balance & low blood pressure
🔹 Medications that cause dizziness
🔹 Inactivity during recovery

It’s important to stay safe both in hospital and at home. Simple fall prevention tips, like staying active and creating a safe environment, can help reduce falls and prevent injuries.
