Can you catch a cold from being cold? 🤔
It’s one of the most common myths around, but being cold itself doesn’t actually make you sick. Colds are caused by viruses, not chilly weather.

That said, colder months can create the perfect environment for bugs to spread. We spend more time indoors, in close contact with others, and dry winter air can make it easier for viruses to travel.

The good news? Simple habits like washing your hands, staying active, getting enough rest and looking after your immune system can all help reduce your risk this winter.

If you’re feeling under the weather, the team at Kardinia Health is here to help 💙

On 27 May, World Sunscreen Day is a reminder that sun protection matters ALL year round.

UV exposure doesn’t disappear in the cooler months, so sunscreen and regular skin checks should remain part of your daily routine.

Early detection is key when it comes to skin cancer. Noticing changes in moles, spots, or new lesions can make a significant difference in outcomes.

If you’ve been meaning to get your skin checked, this is your reminder. ☝️

At Kardinia Health, care goes beyond appointments.

It’s about creating a space where people feel supported, understood, and confident in their health journey.

From GPs to allied health professionals, our team works together with one shared focus: you. Your health, your goals, and your experience.

We know that no two people are the same, which is why we take the time to listen, understand, and provide care that feels right for you.

Because healthcare should feel personal, not rushed, and when you feel comfortable and heard, better health outcomes can follow 💙

Getting an annual flu shot is one of the best ways to protect yourself against influenza, a highly contagious respiratory illness that can cause fever, cough, fatigue and other serious symptoms.

Flu vaccination helps reduce the risk of serious complications, hospitalisation and death, especially for children, older adults, and people with chronic health conditions. It also helps ease pressure on the healthcare system during flu season.

With winter approaching, now is a good time to book your flu vaccine and protect yourself and the wider community.

Back pain is one of the most common reasons people seek medical care.

But did you know that imaging like X-rays or MRIs isn’t always necessary?
In many cases, back pain can be managed effectively without scans, and unnecessary imaging may not change your treatment plan.

Our latest blog explains when imaging is helpful and when it may not be needed.

If you’re experiencing ongoing or severe back pain, it’s important to get the right advice.

This Mother’s Day, we recognise and celebrate the many different ways care and motherhood can look.

Mums, stepmums, grandmothers, foster mums, mums-to-be, and the many women and mother figures who offer love, support, and guidance all play important roles in our lives and communities.

For some, this day is also a time to reflect and honour mothers who are no longer with us, and the lasting impact they’ve had.

From all of us at Kardinia Health, we’re thinking of everyone being celebrated and remembered this Mother’s Day 💙

From 6-12 May, we recognise and celebrate National Nurses Week and the incredible contribution nurses make every day.

Nurses are often the first point of care and a constant source of support, guidance and reassurance for patients.

At Kardinia Health, our nursing team plays a vital role in supporting patients across every stage of their healthcare journey. With a team of nine nurses, each bringing diverse skills and experience, they take the time to get to know our patients and their families, helping deliver care that is both personalised and practical.

From wound care, immunisations, and ECGs to assisting with minor procedures and managing chronic diseases, their work is hands-on, detailed, and essential to keeping our community well.

They also support important preventative care, including health assessments, care plans, and women’s health clinics, helping patients stay proactive about their health.

We’re proud to work alongside such a dedicated and compassionate team who make a meaningful difference to our patients and community every day 💙
