At genU we’re united in our mission to empower people across the country to reach their full potential. Our story started in 1952 when a small group of parents in Geelong dreamed of a world for their children where disability would not stand in the way of their opportunities and potential. Today, we have more than 3600 staff and volunteers providing support and services across Australia nationally

. Every day our work supports people through our disability support, seniors services, training and employment services for job seekers, students and business partners in the community. As a ‘profit for purpose organisation we reinvest back into areas that help to build more inclusive communities. The genU family includes genU Training, MatchWorks, Activ Foundation, Seasons Cafe and Catering, The Otway Kitchen, Eastern Hub Geelong, Barwarre Gardens Retirement Village and St Laurence Park Retirement Village.. A big thank you to everyone who joined us for Paint and Chat at James Street Gallery.

It was great to welcome volunteers from GMHBA, Harcourts North Geelong and Coulter Legal to spend the morning painting alongside genU participants. Together, we created colourful still life flower artworks based on floral displays in the centre of a shared table, while enjoying plenty of conversation along the way.

Days like this show how volunteering can bring people together, build connections and create shared experiences.

More than 200 clients, staff and community members came together at Optus Stadium for our very first Perth Big Day Out.

Dressed as their favourite Aussie icons, everyone enjoyed a day filled with music, dancing, entertainment and plenty of opportunities to build new and lasting friendships.

Our genU Big Day Out continues to grow across Australia, bringing people together to celebrate inclusion, connection and community. We're proud to see this much-loved event now creating lasting memories in Perth.

What a day!

The Workplace Big Day Out is all about bringing people together through connection, teamwork and shared experiences, and this year marked an exciting milestone as we brought the event to Melbourne for the very first time.

A long-standing highlight on the Geelong community calendar, the inaugural Melbourne event added a sporty twist, with participants and corporate volunteers getting involved in Pickleball, Futsal, Basketball and a range of other activities. For many, however, the Zumba session was the clear crowd favourite! 💃🏽🕺

We are incredibly grateful to our friends at YMCA Victoria (The Y) and the City of Melbourne for their generous support, helping us make the event free and accessible for everyone.

A special thank you also to the team at Nova Entertainment, who joined us as part of their commitment to creating genuinely inclusive communities. Your energy, enthusiasm and willingness to connect helped make the day such a success.

Together, we created a day full of laughter, new friendships and unforgettable memories. We can't wait to do it all again.

These celebrations provided valuable opportunities for connection, bringing staff, participants and community members together in welcoming and supportive environments. The gatherings highlighted the importance of fostering inclusion, celebrating diversity and strengthening the sense of belonging that sits at the heart of the genU community.
