It was a privilege to join Kathleen at EDUtech Australia and be part of conversations focused on collaboration, innovation, and brighter futures for all students.

One of the highlights of the event was seeing innovative solutions such as ABii, the smart robot tutor, and SPOTTY, an augmented reality learning platform, demonstrating how technology can be harnessed for good. 💫Inspired by his father’s service in the Navy, Terry Knight knew from an early age that he wanted to serve his country.

🫡That path led him into the U.S. Army, where he trained and served as both a combat medic and practical nurse. His service eventually took him to Iraq, working in intense and unpredictable conditions helping stabilise injured soldiers before evacuation. It was demanding work — physically, mentally, and emotionally — but it reinforced a deep sense of purpose and resilience.

💪Today, Terry’s journey continues as one of our inspiring Carbonhand Heroes, showing how determination and the right support can help people maintain independence and quality of life.

Last week, The Brainary's Managing Director Hugh Kingsley co-present the ABii: AI for Good session at the Australian Library and Information Australian Library and Information Association National Conference 2026 — an important discussion focused on the responsible, ethical, and inclusive use of AI in libraries and learning environments.

Together with Antonia Kumar, Erica Mirarchi, and Helena Nicolas from City of Parramatta Libraries , alongside Prof. Robert Tai from ACU, the session shared valuable insights from the ABii: AI for Good pilot program and its implementation within public library environments.

The discussion explored:
🔹 Real-world lessons and outcomes from introducing AI in public libraries
🔹 How AI can support personalised and adaptive learning experiences at scale
🔹 The importance of adopting AI ethically, transparently, and with a community focus
🔹 Practical frameworks for libraries evaluating and responsibly implementing AI technologies
🔹 The critical role libraries play in making emerging technologies more accessible and equitable
🔹 How meaningful data and insights can better support learners and communities

It was an insightful and forward-thinking conversation that reinforced the importance of keeping people, learning, and accessibility at the centre of technological innovation.

A big thank you to the presenters and participants for contributing to such an engaging and collaborative session. We look forward to continuing these conversations and exploring how we can support schools, libraries, and learning communities through thoughtful innovation.
