Are you a non-traditional general practice thinking of becoming accredited, or have you started the process and need support?

With the accreditation exception available to eligible mobile and outreach practices registered with MyMedicare ending on 31 December 2026, now is a good time to consider starting the process.

Learn more about the accreditation journey from a non-traditional general practice’s perspective by reading Fernbank’s story - https://www.semphn.org.au/small-practice-big-achievement-fernbank-achieves-non-traditional-practice-accreditation

🎉Congratulations to Fernbank on a milestone achievement.

Monash University researchers are seeking GPs to provide feedback on education available through Medcast QHub on the quality use of medicines for depression and anxiety in young people.

You can participate whether or not you have used the QHub education.

Participation involves a 45–60 minute Zoom discussion at a convenient time, and GPs will receive a $160 gift card as a gesture of appreciation for their time.

Your feedback will help researchers understand what makes education useful, relevant and accessible for general practice.

Today is Allied Health Professionals Day, an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the important contribution allied health professionals make to primary care across south east Melbourne.

This year’s theme, Allied health: For everyone, everywhere, recognises the breadth of allied health care and the role allied health professionals play in supporting people across communities, settings and stages of life.

At SEMPHN, allied health professionals also bring their experience and perspectives into our own workforce, helping us better understand and support the sector.

“Having allied health professionals within SEMPHN brings valuable frontline experience and an understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by providers. This perspective helps shape programs, resources and engagement activities that are practical, relevant and aligned with the needs of the allied health sector.”
Simon Storey, Physiotherapist and SEMPHN Senior Program Officer.

What is thunderstorm asthma?

Thunderstorm asthma is thought to be triggered by a unique combination of high amounts of grass pollen in the air and a certain type of thunderstorm. For people who have asthma or hay fever this can trigger severe asthma symptoms.

Grass pollen grains get swept up in the wind and carried for long distances; some can burst open and release tiny particles that are concentrated in the wind gusts that come just before a thunderstorm.

These particles are small enough to be breathed deep into the lungs and can rapidly trigger asthma symptoms, making it difficult to breathe.

If you have current, past or undiagnosed asthma or seasonal hay fever it’s important you know about thunderstorm asthma and how you can protect yourself and your loved ones.
