A new evidence-informed resource is helping behaviour support practitioners strengthen the quality of behaviour support plans.

The Positive Behaviour Support Plan Quality Assessment (PBSP-QA) tool provides a practical framework for reviewing and improving behaviour support plans.

Developed through research, testing and consultation, it incorporates insights from people with lived experience of positive behaviour support and disability support workers.

The PBSP-QA was developed by The University of Queensland researchers Professor Karen Nankervis and Dr Maria Vassos, with support from our Enabling Practitioner’s Grant. It was further refined through testing and refinement undertaken with the Commission’s Practice Quality team.

We are launching an inquiry into seclusion in NDIS support services. These practices can restrict a person’s freedom.

Seclusion means preventing a person with disability from leaving a room, area or environment. It can also mean making someone believe that they cannot leave.

These methods can seriously affect a person’s freedom, dignity, wellbeing and human rights.

We want to hear from NDIS providers, participants and other stakeholders. Your insights will help us understand how often seclusion practices are being used, their impact and what changes are needed to strengthen safeguards.
