R U OK? doesn’t have an age limit. 💛
Getting older can bring wonderful things... perspective, experience, freedom and time.
But it can also bring changes that aren’t always easy to talk about.
The loss of a partner or friends.
Changes to our health or independence.
Retirement and the loss of a familiar role.
Less connection with the people and communities that once surrounded us.
And sometimes, the feeling that we are no longer as needed, purposeful or inspired as we once were.
These things matter.
Around 15% of Australians aged 65+ experienced loneliness in 2024, and we know that loneliness and social isolation can have significant effects on both physical and mental wellbeing. And there is another statistic worth talking about. In 2024, 575 Australians aged 65 and over died by su***de — 77% of them men. In fact, men aged 85+ recorded the highest age-specific su***de rate of any age group that year.
These statistics aren't shared to make ageing something to fear. They're a reminder that mental wellbeing continues to matter at every stage of life.
We believe ageing should still contain opportunities to connect, contribute, learn, laugh, belong and have something to look forward to... so sometimes the simple act of asking "Are you OK"? is a great way to minimise the gap, and really take the time to hear the answer. This R U OK? Day, check in with an older person in your life. Have a cuppa. Make the phone call. Invite them along. Ask their opinion. Ask them about their story.
Because getting older should never mean becoming invisible.
Connection matters. Purpose matters. People matter — at every age.

Our Friday, Sing, Move Play is back at it with some fabulous games, set to inspire, and challenge our customers.

We've had our fair share of rain this winter, which has been a little unusual for those of us in Northern NSW and South East Queensland who are used to bright blue skies.

But give us even the smallest break in the clouds and a hint of sunshine, and you can guarantee our Men's Group will be out making the most
of it.

One of our MOST favourite things, is celebrating the birthday's of our customers - particularly when someone is celebrating100!! It's a "have you got everything ready" kinda of day, when we know a customer is coming in or celebrating their birthday on one of our group activities - and we do all that we can to make them feel special. Our Support Workers are wonderful.
Happy Birthday Monty and Irene.. we love you!

Our Friday MSP Support Workers, are highly creatively, constantly love being inspired and are always keen to share their inspiration with the customers.
Lately they have been tapping into some dextrity skills along with many other things. Our volunteer Sue is always an advocate for Friday singalongs… which customers absolutely love.

A beautiful reminder that kindness, compassion and the way we make others feel can leave a lasting impression. Sometimes it’s the smallest moments of warmth and understanding that stay with us the longest

Life doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful. Sometimes it’s through the difficult moments, the changes and the imperfections that we discover our greatest strength, hope and growth. A gentle reminder that even when things feel a little broken, there is still room for light to find its way in.
