Some journeys take a lifetime to come full circle. Today, Margaret’s did. 🤍

Many years ago, Margaret left Scotland for Australia, beginning a new chapter of her life on the other side of the world.
She settled in Sydney, met her life partner Phillip, and together they shared a wonderful life filled with love, companionship and memories.
When the time came to consider her final wishes, Margaret knew where she wanted to return.
Today, here in Edinburgh, Scotland, I had the honour of personally returning Margaret’s ashes to her nephew. In time, he will take Margaret to her favourite park in Newbury, where her ashes will be scattered and she will finally rest in a place that held such special meaning for her.

There is something incredibly moving about completing a person’s final journey, particularly one that brings them back to the country where their story first began.

For me, being a funeral director is about so much more than arranging a funeral. It is about listening, caring, honouring a life and, wherever possible, helping families fulfil those very personal final wishes.

Margaret’s journey has come full circle. Home again. 🤍

Today, we received a phone call that reminded us exactly why the way we care for families matters.

A family had recently sat down with Jodie at Eastern Suburbs Funerals to gather some information, talk through their options and receive a quote.

There is something beautifully simple about rose petals at a funeral.
They give us a way to say goodbye when words are difficult to find.
Placing a rose petal on a coffin can be a final, gentle act of love, a moment to pause, to remember, and to honour the person whose life has touched ours.
For some, the petals represent love. For others, gratitude, remembrance, beauty, or simply the tenderness of farewell.
I particularly love offering rose petals to family and friends as they approach the coffin at the end of a service. There is no expectation and no right or wrong way to do it. Some place one carefully. Some scatter a handful. Some hold onto their petal for a moment before letting it go.
It is such a small gesture, yet it can carry so much meaning.
Funerals don’t always need grand gestures. Sometimes the most memorable moments are the quiet ones, a flower, a touch, a pause, and one last goodbye.
