Exploring Vata Dosha Imbalances ⬇️ 💨
Ayurveda is a science that reminds us we are all a part of nature. The Doshas are a language used to describe mind and body imbalances through the elements found in nature.
Vata Dosha is made up of the air and space elements.
The qualities of air are movement, dryness, and variability. We can see these qualities reflected in the gases within the body and the movement of our thoughts.
The qualities of space are lightness, expansiveness, and openness.
Within the mind and body, we can experience either an excess or deficiency of these elements, causing a Dosha to become imbalanced straying you from your unique health blueprint.
For example:
🌬️ Gas & Bloating – Excess air within the digestive system can create gas and bloating. This is often aggravated by foods that share similar qualities, such as bread and crackers, which are light and airy.
😰 Stress & Anxiety – Too much movement (a quality of air) coming into the senses creates mental busyness like racing thoughts, impacting the quality of your nervous system.
🩻 Stiffness & Lower Back Pain – Air is drying by nature, so excess Vata can dry out the joints. It impacts lubrication and therefore joint fluidity, contributing to the stiffness you feel, especially in the morning.
These are three common symptoms that society often passes off as “normal.”
As someone who experienced all of these symptoms and used Yoga and Ayurveda to bring myself back into balance, I can tell you this: don’t settle for living with discomfort.
Your body is signalling that something needs to change. It’s communicating that you’re out of balance and moving away from the state where you can feel your best.
