There's still time to attend our next P.A.R.T.Y program on June 23!

This impactful 2.5-hour session is designed for older youth, their families, and friends, providing an honest and informative insight into the consequences of risky behaviour.

Thanks to the generous philanthropic support of the Highland Foundation, the program will feature:

Powerful video content and live demonstrations

Presentations from Alfred Health clinicians, first responders, and allied health professionals

A compelling first-hand account from a former trauma patient

See below to purchase tickets 👇

We managed to catch ICU Trauma Nurse Consultant Kate just as she’d finished hosting another Prevent Alcohol and Risk-related Trauma in Youth aka P.A.R.T.Y program (that's a mannequin, in case you're wondering!)

P.A.R.T.Y is aimed at giving young people a better understanding of the consequences of risk-taking behaviours, as well as providing a behind-the-scenes look at what happens at a busy hospital.

“Today, we brought a school group here into the ICU. We talked them through what’s clinically involved in caring for patients and showed them the kind of equipment and machines we use.

“We also shared the story of one of our current patients - someone otherwise much like them. Then, they got to see the actual patient and meet their family.”

While school sessions are booked out this year, places are still available for next Tuesday’s out-of-hours session.

Open to members of the public aged 16-26, along with their family and friends, Kate said the advantage of these sessions is parents and guardians can come along.

“Doing the program together can be a powerful shared experience and can trigger conversations between parents and their kids long after the event is over.” Kate said.

Car enthusiasts dug deep at a special one-off event last month, raising more than $10,000 for the Paula Fox Melanoma and Cancer Centre in the process.

Hannah Fox, Fox Special Projects Executive Officer, said the concept of 'Cars and Coffee' was inspired by seeing the enthusiasm and passion people have when they visit the Fox Classic Car Collection.

"We wanted to build on that by creating a day where enthusiasts could not only admire the collection, but also bring along and showcase their own vehicles, connect with like-minded people, and enjoy the experience as a broader community," she said.

"At the heart of what we do is community. We love creating opportunities for people to come together through a shared passion, and it's incredibly rewarding to see so many families, friends and car enthusiasts enjoying the day together.

"This year's event was made even more special by supporting the Paula Fox Melanoma and Cancer Centre. Seeing the generosity of attendees and the wider motoring community was truly inspiring. Raising more than $10,000 for such an important cause was a fantastic result, and we're incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed and helped make the day such a success."

In a breakthrough, The Alfred has successfully grafted bioengineered skin onto adult burns patients.

The team's ambition is to make bioengineered skin available to every burns patient in Australia — and ultimately, around the world.

You can help expand this clinical trial and turn this revolutionary treatment into the new standard of care for burns patients everywhere.

Donating today can help grow more bioengineered skin, support the teams behind this work and transform burns treatment — meaning fewer procedures and less scarring for patients.

With the long weekend about to kick off, burns specialists are urging Victorians to remain vigilant around fire, with research showing petrol burns are 20% more likely to occur on a public holiday.

“Too often we see people, especially young men, seriously injured in social settings around fires where petrol has been used as an accelerant," said Dr Lisa Rae, Head of the Victorian Adult Burns Service at The Alfred.

"They might get caught up in the moment and be tempted to reignite a camp fire with petrol from a jerry can sitting around, or use methylated spirits from their camping stove."

Dr Rae warns these largely preventable incidents often result in life-long injuries, and require immediate first aid and likely medical attention.

"Our message is clear: never use petrol near a fire.”

Go Dry this July and support patients at The Alfred - registrations for Dry July 2026 are now open!

This year we’re fundraising to refurbish the radiotherapy waiting room at The Alfred, creating a more comfortable and supportive space for patients and their families.

Patients undergoing radiotherapy often spend extended and repeated periods in the waiting area during treatment. A refurbished space will:

👉 Create a calmer, more welcoming environment
👉 Support patient wellbeing and comfort
👉 Reduce stress during a challenging time
👉 Better reflect the high-quality, compassionate care delivered by the Radiation Oncology team (some of the amazing team members are pictured below).

Taking part is simple – and has great benefits for you too, including better sleep, increased energy, and improved wellbeing.

👉 Sign up in just 2 minutes:

Join as an individual, start a team, or join the Alfred Cancer Services team!

Together, we can create a more comfortable, calming space that will significantly improve the experience for people undergoing cancer treatment.

We had some special visitors at The Alfred recently when long-time volunteer and supporter Doreen Phillips dropped in.
It was part of a multi-generational visit, alongside her granddaughter Teagan and great grandson Braxton.
Doreen was overjoyed to see her name on a board remembering those who either gave or inspired gifts to the 2010 expansion of The Alfred Centre.
We love our volunteers at The Alfred Foundation and we are thrilled to support International Volunteers Week this week/last week.

UTIs (urinary tract infections) affect millions of people - but diagnosis and treatment often fall short, especially for those with recurring infections.

Researchers at The Alfred are working to change that, developing smarter diagnostics and more personalised treatments to improve care and outcomes.

Backed by community support, this work could mean faster diagnoses, better treatments and fewer repeat infections.
