Meet Rocco: co-founder and financier of Basette Barberia on Lygon St.

Rocco was raised in his dad’s barbershop in North Melbourne, near the Queen Victoria Market.

Sweeping floors, shaving faces, lighting ci******es and doing espresso runs for his clients by the age of 13.

Rocco has passed on the family tradition and works alongside his son Stefan.

I don’t know what’s better - their haircuts or their storytelling! The vibe at this shop is unlike any other. Do yourself a favour and pay them a visit.

When someone dies, it’s easy to focus on the practical things that need to be done. But as Doris Zagdanski explains, funerals serve a much deeper purpose.

They give us a place to gather, to honour a life, and to support those left behind. One line from our conversation stuck out to me:

“I’ve been to so many beautiful funerals where I thought, if only the person who died could have heard what was said about them today.”
