๐ SASMA TURNS 65! ๐
Today we celebrate 65 years of South Australian Sports Medicine excellence.
Our story began in 1961 with local Doctors, following the emergence of Sports Medicine as a result of the 1956 Melbourne Olympics.
Passionate clinicians volunteered their time at 'The Centre' in 1970's on South Tce - the foundation of SAโs first Sports Medicine Clinic, also delivering education sessions.
From these beginnings, the SA Branch championed a multidisciplinary membership, welcoming doctors, physiotherapists, researchers, physical educators and more.
Our members recognised the vital role of Sports Trainers, creating one of the first accreditation pathways in the 1980's to support safe sport across SA.
Today, SASMA continues to be SA's leading education and advisory body for safe sport and activity, supported by trusted members and informing our community.
We are supporting the next generation of sports medicine professionals who are the team behind the team at every level of competition, from the Olympics, Paralympics, National League teams through to amateur and community sport.
We champion concussion management, GP training, neurodiversity in sport, medical governance, women's health in sport, delivering SA largest Sports Medicine Conference annually and providing medical coverage at the Tour Down Under, World Beach Volleyball Championships, Australian Master Games, Adelaide Equestrian Festival and more.
Thank you to our members, funders, partners and community for decades of positive impact across metro and regional SA.
Happy 65th Birthday, SASMA! Hereโs to celebrating our legacy - and looking forward to an exciting future advancing safe sport for all.
