Todayโ€™s dress code: denim with purpose.

A pair of jeans might feel like a small thing. But on Jeans for Genes Day, wearing them can start a conversation and help fund research that could change a childโ€™s future.

Around 1 in 20 children are affected by a birth defect or genetic disease. Many conditions still have no specific treatment or cure, which is why research matters. Funds raised support the Childrenโ€™s Medical Research Institute and its work into genetic diseases, including research to improve treatments and develop future cures.

So wear your jeans. Ask a friend to join in. Share the cause. Small actions, worn together, can help support big breakthroughs. ๐ŸคŽ

Is it vertigo or another type of dizziness? Knowing how your symptoms feel can be a helpful first step. ๐ŸคŽ

Do you feel as though you or your surroundings are spinning or moving, even when you are still? This may be vertigo.

Feeling light-headed, unsteady or as though you are floating? These are other common descriptions of dizziness.

One common cause of vertigo is BPPV, an inner-ear condition where tiny balance crystals move out of place. It can cause brief episodes of spinning when rolling over in bed, looking up or changing your head position.

Vestibular physiotherapy can assess and treat certain causes of dizziness and vertigo, but the appropriate treatment depends on what is causing your symptoms.

Our Toma Health vestibular physiotherapists use specialised goggles to closely observe eye movements and nystagmus. This supports a detailed assessment and helps guide an individualised treatment plan.

If dizziness or vertigo is affecting your day-to-day life, get in touch to book a vestibular physiotherapy assessment. ๐ŸคŽ

Toma Health was honoured to attend The Sutherland Hospital Gala Dinner over the weekend, supporting fundraising for local cancer services, research and education. ๐ŸคŽ

Hosted by The Jacaranda Foundation, the evening brought together our Shire community and healthcare industry around a cause that is important.

The Bangawarra Cancer Care Service holds a special place in the Toma Health story. Supporting this event and the ongoing work of the service and The Jacaranda Foundation was especially meaningful to our team.

Thank you to Sutherland Hospital, everyone who helped make the night possible, and The Jacaranda Foundation for the important work you continue to do for local people and families. Weโ€™re grateful to be part of a community that shows up for one another.

Would you know what to do if someone was having a stroke?

During National Stroke Week, Toma Health is sharing one message everyone should know: think F.A.S.T. ๐ŸคŽ

Face: Has their face drooped?
Arms: Can they lift both arms?
Speech: Is their speech slurred or hard to understand?
Time: Call 000 straight away.

A stroke is always a medical emergency. Acting F.A.S.T. and calling an ambulance quickly can make a real difference.

Stroke recovery can also continue long after leaving hospital. Toma Healthโ€™s home health check-ins and nursing services can help people stay connected to the support they need as they work towards their everyday goals.

Take a moment to learn the signs, and share them with someone you care about.

Stepping up - one kilometre at a time ๐ŸคŽ

Step Up to Breast Cancer is a nationwide challenge to walk or run 56km across August, reflecting the 56 Australians diagnosed with breast cancer each day.

Thereโ€™s no need to be a runner. Take the dog for an extra lap, meet a mate for a walk, or make your daily movement count. Every kilometre can help fund vital breast cancer research.

Join Toma Health in supporting a future where more people can live well after a breast cancer diagnosis.

Ready to take on the 56km challenge? Sign up or donate via Step Up to Breast Cancer.

Toma Healthโ€™s home health check-ins and nursing service can bring practical support, offering regular connection, individualised health support and a trusted clinical team to help people feel supported through treatment and beyond.

We also provide physio support during recovery, to help people rebuild strength, manage treatment-related changes, and feel more confident in everyday life.

It's easy to take our liver for granted. It quietly does its job every day, helping our bodies function without us giving it much thought.

Itโ€™s one of the reasons World Hepatitis Day is so important.

Millions of people around the world are living with hepatitis, and many don't know they have it because symptoms aren't always obvious. The earlier it's detected, the sooner people can access the care and treatment they need.

If you've been putting off a check-up or have concerns about your health, this could be the reminder you need to have a conversation with your GP.

A simple discussion or test could make all the difference. If you're not sure where to start, our team can help connect you with the right health professionals and support you in taking that first step. Sometimes, that's all it takes.

Living with chronic pain? It doesnโ€™t have to control your life. ๐ŸคŽ

Chronic pain is pain that lasts for more than three months or continues beyond the normal
healing time. It can affect every part of life, including your ability to work, sleep, exercise, socialise and do the things you enjoy. In some cases, pain can continue even when there is no ongoing injury or damage.

Research shows that managing chronic pain is often most effective when a whole-person approach is taken.

Toma Health can support your chronic pain journey through:

โœ”๏ธ Physiotherapy โ€“ to improve strength, mobility and confidence with movement.

โœ”๏ธ Exercise and movement guidance โ€“ to help you stay active safely, because the right movement can play an important role in managing persistent pain.

โœ”๏ธ Education and practical strategies โ€“ to help you better understand your pain, pace your activities and build confidence in everyday movement.

โœ”๏ธ Community care support โ€“ if pain is making daily tasks, appointments or getting out into the community more challenging.

โœ”๏ธ Nursing care โ€“ for people living with chronic health conditions who need additional clinical support as part of their care.

Thereโ€™s rarely a single solution for chronic pain, but with the right team and a personalised plan, many people can improve their function, return to meaningful activities and regain confidence in their day-to-day life.

If youโ€™ve been living with ongoing pain, speak with your GP or specialist about the right treatment options for you. If physiotherapy, nursing or community support is recommended, weโ€™re here to help.

Every person has their own strengths, interests, challenges and goals. Support should reflect the individual, not just a diagnosis ๐ŸคŽ

On World Fragile X Day, weโ€™re helping raise awareness of Fragile X Syndrome (FXS), the most common inherited single-gene cause of autism.

While not every autistic person has Fragile X Syndrome, many people living with Fragile X also have an autism diagnosis.

Living with autism or Fragile X looks different for every individual. For some, support with movement, communication, daily routines or participating in the community can make everyday life a little easier.

Depending on each personโ€™s needs, support may include:

โœ”๏ธ Physiotherapy to improve strength, balance, coordination and mobility.
โœ”๏ธCommunity Care to assist with everyday activities, social connection and community participation.
โœ”๏ธ Nursing Services for people who need additional clinical care and health support at home.

Families, carers and healthcare professionals all play an important role in helping people access the support thatโ€™s right for them.

This World Fragile X Day, letโ€™s continue raising awareness and encouraging inclusion for everyone. ๐ŸคŽ

If you or someone you care for has autism or Fragile X Syndrome, always speak with your doctor, specialist or healthcare team about the support that may be right for your individual needs.

What does care really look like?

It doesn't always happen in a clinic.

Sometimes, the best care happens at home. It's helping with everyday tasks, building confidence, staying active in the community, or simply having someone there when you need an extra pair of hands.

Home care isn't only for people with high support needs. It can be a helping hand with daily activities, transport to appointments, meal preparation, or getting out into the community.

The right care should make life easier, support your independence, and fit around your goals, routine and lifestyle.

At Toma Health, we provide personalised in-home care and community support that meets you where you are, so you can continue living life your way.
