Last week, APLUS Pharmacy Education was proud to host our Shepparton, Asthma Updates That Matter educational dinner meeting. With 44 healthcare professionals in attendance and a waiting list, the overwhelming response reflects a growing commitment to implementing the National Asthma Council Australia's updated Australian Asthma Handbook and advancing best practice asthma care across regional Victoria.

The evening brought together GPs, nurses and pharmacists for an engaging evening of learning, discussion and collaboration. It was inspiring to see healthcare professionals from across the region sharing ideas, asking questions and exploring practical ways to improve asthma care for their patients.

A special thank you to Dr Sam Kennedy for sharing Zoe's story and reminding us that the Zoe Kennedy Foundation is about far more than remembrance, it's about turning heartbreak into meaningful action and improving asthma outcomes for Australians.

I'm incredibly excited to share that from next week I'll be partnering with the wonderful team at Moama Health Clinic, consulting once a fortnight on Tuesday afternoons with a special focus on respiratory care and medication optimisation.

This exciting collaboration brings together the expertise of pharmacists, doctors, nurses and reception staff to deliver coordinated, patient-centred care within general practice.

If you or someone you know is living with asthma, COPD, hay fever, experiencing a persistent cough or breathlessness, or simply has questions about their medications, I'd love to help. Together, we'll work to better understand your health, optimise your medications where appropriate, and help you feel more confident managing your condition.

Working alongside general practice will allow me to spend dedicated time with patients, complementing the care provided by their GP to achieve the best possible outcomes.

We’re making an important change to how we help Australians stay informed about the environmental conditions that can affect their asthma.

A little behind the scenes look at what goes into organising an educational dinner meeting for primary healthcare professionals…
Two weeks ago in one day, I visited eight towns, 13 pharmacies and 13 general practices to personally deliver flyers and have some valuable conversations about implementing the updated Australian asthma guidelines.
What a big day but incredibly worthwhile!
We have a fantastic number of healthcare professionals joining us this Wednesday for our next dinner meeting in Shepparton. Then it’s on to Geelong next month!
I’m so grateful for the interest, enthusiasm and commitment to improving asthma care across our regional communities.

Australia is incredibly fortunate to have pharmacy groups like Independent Pharmacies Australia (IPA) that continue to invest in education, professional development and, most importantly, better patient outcomes.
I was thrilled to be invited as the guest speaker for last night's Independent Pharmacies Australia (IPA) webinar, sharing practical strategies and my clinical experience to help pharmacists build confidence in respiratory care, recognising patients at risk, conducting better respiratory conversations and discussing where we can make the biggest difference in our day to day practice.
As Keely Paul said in her post, pharmacists are in a prime position to reduce hospitalisations and achieve meaningful improvements in patients' lives through better respiratory health conversations. I couldn't agree more. Every conversation is an opportunity to educate, identify poor control, optimise treatment, improve inhaler technique and ultimately change outcomes.
A sincere thank you to Keely Paul and Taje Zelka for the invitation, and to everyone (over 160 registered IPA Pharmacists) who joined the webinar. It was fantastic to see so many pharmacists committed to expanding their knowledge and embracing the growing role of community pharmacy in respiratory care.

Once a month, I have the privilege of visiting TerryWhite Chemmart Cobram as their Professional Services Partner, with a special focus on Respiratory Care Clinics.
TerryWhite Chemmart has built a strong reputation for delivering high quality Care Clinics, and I'm proud of the asthma and respiratory care we provide here. Every consultation is an opportunity to assess airway control, optimise inhaler technique, identify risk factors, review treatment where appropriate, and empower patients to better understand and manage their respiratory health.
It's a pleasure working alongside Tamara and Paul their pharmacy team that genuinely values care beyond the dispensary and recognises the important role pharmacists play in improving patient outcomes through professional services.
Community pharmacy continues to evolve, and respiratory care is one area where we can make a real difference.
