Last week the Federal Government made the important decision to make changes to the Aged Care Rules and prioritise Motor Neurone Disease (MND). This recognition means that Australians over the age of 65 living with MND can be placed on a fast-tracked pathway to receive Support at Home Funding if they have already been assessed.

This update recognises that older Australians living with MND, need care urgently and allows families to better support their loved ones.

Stephanie cared for her father-in-law, Clarry, alongside his Prestige carers to fulfil Clarry’s wish to remain at home in his final moments. In this video, Stephanie shares why palliative care at home was important to her family.

Here a few of our favourite moments from the Great MND Relay. We were very proud to sponsor such an impactful event and cheer on the Prestige team and a few of our own clients and their families who put at Lakeside Stadium.

Thank you MND Victoria for having Team Prestige at the Great MND Relay last Saturday.

The energy and community spirit of all the families who ran, walked or rolled around the Lakeside Stadium was truly inspiring.

We thoroughly enjoyed hosting the fuel station and meeting so many people who share our passion for making a difference in the lives of those living with MND.

Around nine years ago, Stephanie's father-in-law, Clarry, returned home after a long stay in hospital. Stephanie stepped into becoming Clarry's full-time caregiver but recognised she couldn't do it alone.

She turned to Prestige Inhome Care to give her a helping hand. Over time, a helping hand turned into respite care and eventually palliative care.

Seeing the difference in-home care made for Clarry inspired Stephanie to help other families in the same situation.

Today, Steph is a Carer Lead at Prestige, helping carers give families the best possible support for their loved ones.

This morning the Australian Government announced new measures to strengthen consumer protections for older Australians.

The Government will also be deferring the implementation of formal price caps, taking the time to better understand broader pricing trends.

The Australian Government is strengthening protections for older Australians in the Support at Home program, with a new package that responds directly to what we have heard from older people, their families, advocates and providers.

Palliative care is not giving up. The aim of palliative care is to maintain quality of life for people living with a life-limiting illness. Many people associate palliative care with the final days of life, the end of treatment, or a sense that hope has been lost.

But palliative care can be introduced alongside active treatment and earlier in the course of illness. For us, palliative care is about improving quality of life, relieving discomfort, providing comfort, and helping people and their families live as well as possible.
