We've also been practicing self-awareness in the meditation circle recently, more steered towards noticing our thoughts and consciously choosing them. This week I want to go a little deeper ....

My knowing is that there are no coincidences: everything happens for a reason, our soul knows what it’s doing, and our challenges lead to growth. I also believe that we're not given anything that we can't handle.

It's easy to see and acknowledge this when you experience a positive synchronicity: bumping into a friend you were just thinking about, the song on the radio confirming your current mood, the thing you really need appearing right when you need it ... We must also acknowledge that our challenges are "meant to be" and this can be hard! Why would I choose to experience trauma, injury, pain, etc.?

Because if we didn't know the discomfort of these situations we would not grow into the person we are today!

Your strength, wisdom, courage, love, clarity, and more are all a result of all of the things you have experienced in your life.

Meditation is a vehicle to turn down the volume on the narrow-minded mind and tap into the soul’s deeper and more helpful wisdom. This gives an opportunity for clarity: insight into the reasons why things happen in our lives. With this comes more growth, more evolution, and a greater vantage point from which you can view life and do life.

I am so looking forward to meeting you in yoga and meditation today, see you soon! πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈπŸ™

Good morning 🌞 Happy !

Feeling grateful today for a day in the kitchen, making stock from scratch and cooking up nostalgic recipes from my childhood.

When I was in kindy (just a couple of years ago πŸ˜†) there was a fundraiser where each family donated a simple recipe, my Mum typed them all up and illustrated the pages, each child created a cover, and we sold the books called "Kids in the Kitchen" at the annual fete. As you can see, it's a well used and loved book to this day!

What are you feeling grateful for today? πŸ™ ... and if you have a favourite recipe you're willing to share I'd love to see it! 🫢

πŸ“Έ a couple of our familiy's favourite recipes from the book, and the cover I illustrated πŸ‘©β€πŸŽ¨

Hi Yogis!

One of the gifts of yoga is self-awareness, we are more able to notice how we are and what we need in order to feel good.

Observation is not the same as judgement. Judgement is unhelpful, critical, negative. It prevents clarity and forward movement. Self-awareness, open observation, is different…

If you come to yoga: how do you feel and how does your week flow?
If you don’t come to yoga: how do you feel and how does your week flow?

Simply asking the question may be enough, because once you see it, you cannot unsee it 😊

With self-enquiry, you notice cause and effect. Not β€œright” or β€œwrong”, β€œgood” or β€œbad” … just if I do β€˜this’ I then feel like β€˜that’. You can apply this simple practice to choices in every area of your life.

I’ve been working with self-enquiry and noticing I feel so much better for simply pausing, asking β€˜how will I feel if …?’ and making a decision that lines up with the feeling I want to experience.

Because if nothing changes, nothing changes!

Here’s a simple example: after teaching evening yoga, I have a wind down snack. Generally, it’s whatever is quick & handy (cheese & biccies). Recently I’ve been making black rice pudding during the day so that I have something warm, nourishing, and ready to eat in the evening. It's enjoyable and feels better in my body. It’s not hard, it’s not expensive, it just takes a little tapas (discipline).

This observation of cause and effect is an opportunity to cultivate a greater level of happiness, wellbeing, and fulfilment for yourself.

I am offering you a practice this week around this yogic practice of Svadhyaya (self-enquiry) which is a tool for a happier, healthier, more fulfilling life. See you soon!

This is one of my all time favourite quotes and points to what I have experienced, and would like to remind you: just one meditation session yields lasting results.

Even if you sit to meditate and have a thousand thoughts with not much silence, you still gain an awareness of how you are in that moment. Without meditation you may not have realised just how much you're holding, doing, and thinking, in each moment of each day. Once you see it you cannot unsee it, and once you see it you then have a choice: do I keep things the same or ...? πŸ€” It's your choice!

Last week we were talking about using meditation to rewire our thinking. Know that the effects are not just positive but permanent in the most wonderful way :) You get to choose for yourself: how you want to live, do, be and think ... and once you bust out of that box, the barriers that previously held you back are dissolved, and you can't fit back in πŸ¦‹

I am so looking forward to meeting you in yoga and meditation today, see you soon! πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈπŸ™

Hi Yogis! 😊

Practicing yoga brings about positive changes on all levels: our body, our mind, our emotions, and our whole life. It's helpful to reflect, acknowledging the journey and how far you’ve come. Not just physically but also in terms of your resilience, how you meet life.

It may look like better balance, less stiffness, more confidence, a clearer mind.
It may be a little, it may be a lot of progress you can discern.

Sometimes it’s two steps forward and one step back.
When we learn new things it takes time.

We may have injuries or challenges, needing us to take time away. And when we return, we notice perhaps a change from absence of practice.

This is all part of the journey.

The body has a memory and can make new ones. With yoga, we are forming new neural pathways. Returning after absence from yoga your body, mind and nervous system will return to what is familiar. A new normal.

Those of you who have been part of our community for a long time, will have also experienced the evolution of my teaching. It is a co-creation, we are all evolving together. By you continuing to show up and be who you are, you are initiating growth and development in me and what I offer, as much as in your own self.

It is a most fulfilling journey and for your part in that I am grateful. Honouring this beautiful flow, I’m offering a reflective flow class this week, and am so looking forward to sharing it with you!

Did you know that the brain is wired to look at what’s wrong, to focus more on all that is negative? - it's called negativity bias. The scientific explanation for this is that we're more likely to survive if we learn quickly from, and remember, adverse events that could have a significant impact on our wellbeing.

The flip side of this is, if the brain is better at noticing all of the negative things that happen to us, we need to make a conscious effort to cultivate positive thinking.

Meditation Gifts us with self-awareness. In meditation we are observing ourselves, our minds, and our thinking patterns. After practicing this on our mat it starts to naturally happen as we go about our day to day responsibilities as well. You may have noticed since starting meditation practice you naturally start to catch yourself having an unhelpful thought whereas once upon a time you may not have.

You can’t change what you’re not aware of. So once you see you’re having a thought that is undesirable you have a choice: you can enquire if it’s true, and whether or not you wish to keep it delete it or change it to a more helpful thought.

We can use our meditation to rewire our thinking, so even though the brain naturally has a negative bias, we can train it to be more objective - observing the present moment with less judgement - cultivating a mind that is open to everything and attached to nothing 😊

I am so looking forward to meeting you in yoga and meditation today, see you soon! πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈπŸ™

Happy Sunday Yogis! 😊

My first spiritual teacher (25 years ago) very quickly identified that I was "disembodied" ie. living in my head and not in my body. He pointed out why that was creating so many issues in my life and one of the first things he taught me is the importance of grounding: connecting with our feet, our physical foundation, and energetic earthing rods.

In my experience this journey of becoming more grounded has helped me to stay stable but flexible throughout life's challenges, and to lay the groundwork for a much more happy and fulfilling life. It's actually that literal! And yoga is a very effective grounding tool, many of our asanas (postures) bring awareness to our connection with earth and help to cultivate a sense of grounded balance and stability.

Last week we used core work to fortify our personal potential and our ability to create our life. But ... if we don't ground, it's like holding a seed in your hand and never actually planting it ... it can't grow. So this week, we will consciously ground, which enables your intentions for yourself and your life to manifest into reality.

Looking forward to grounding with you soon!
