Everyone talks about losing the weight.

I don’t think we talk nearly enough about what happens when you’ve lost it.

Because reaching your goal isn’t the end of weight management.

It’s learning how to eat when you’re no longer dieting.

How to navigate weekends, holidays and real life.

How to recognise normal fluctuations without thinking you’ve failed.

And how to build a way of eating that you can actually live with.

Losing weight takes commitment.

Learning how to stay there deserves just as much attention.

That’s why, for me, maintenance was never an afterthought.

It was always part of the plan.

There’s something I’ve been working on behind the studio for quite a while now.

I’m not ready to share exactly what it is yet, but I can tell you that it has challenged me.

I’ve researched endlessly. Made phone calls. Had conversations. Followed leads that looked incredibly promising, only to discover they weren’t going to work. I’ve changed direction more than once.

And there have definitely been days when I’ve thought, surely this shouldn’t be this difficult.

I haven’t figured it out yet.

But somewhere in all of that frustration, I realised there’s a very big difference between saying:

“I haven’t figured it out.” and “I can’t figure it out.”

One closes the door. The other leaves room for another conversation, another idea or a completely different way of approaching the problem.

I’ve watched clients go through their own version of this with weight loss for years.

Something that worked brilliantly before suddenly doesn’t. The scales stop moving. Life changes. Your body changes. And it’s very easy to think you’ve failed or that you simply need to try harder.

Sometimes neither is true.

Sometimes you need to stop, reassess and find a different way forward.

I’m learning that persistence isn’t about stubbornly doing the same thing until it works.

It’s being willing to change direction without giving up on where you’re trying to go.

So no, I haven’t figured this one out yet.

But I will keep asking questions, learning and looking.

And perhaps if you’re in the middle of something difficult yourself right now, that’s worth remembering too.

Not having the answer yet doesn’t mean there isn’t one.

Red LED has genuine benefits for the skin — so why don’t I use it immediately after skin needling?

Because with needling, the controlled injury is intentional.

That micro-injury triggers a natural wound-healing response. Some redness and inflammation afterwards isn’t something I automatically want to switch off — it’s part of the process we’ve deliberately initiated.

LED can influence that inflammatory and repair response, which can be useful in many situations. I simply don’t believe every beneficial treatment needs to be used at every stage.

Sometimes good clinical treatment is also knowing when not to intervene.

Why choose one when your skin could benefit from both?

Fractional Peels combine skin needling with a professionally selected PCA peel to target more than one skin concern in a single considered treatment.

STACKING. It’s a word you’re going to be hearing a lot more of.

It’s already everywhere in conversations around peptides, longevity and metabolic health. But what does it actually mean?

At its simplest, stacking means combining different supplements or compounds, with each chosen to play a particular role towards a common goal.

For me, that's the interesting part.

Instead of looking for one product that's supposed to do everything, you look at the bigger picture.

If the goal is weight management, for example, there are several things we may want to support along the way: adequate nutrition during a calorie deficit, maintaining muscle, energy metabolism, appetite and satiety, gut health or an identified nutritional need.

One supplement doesn't necessarily need to address all of those things.

Different components can have different jobs.

Of course, putting five supplements together doesn't automatically make something a clever "stack".

The ingredients, doses, evidence, overlap and the individual taking them still matter.

But I do think the concept is worth understanding.

I'm not particularly interested in finding the next miracle supplement. I'm much more interested in whether several well-chosen tools can each do one job well.

I'm going to unpack stacking a little more over the coming weeks, including what I look for when deciding whether something actually deserves a place in a stack.

If you've been hearing the word and wondering what all the fuss is about, save this one and follow along.

If your appetite feels different than it did five or ten years ago, there may be more going on than willpower.

Hormonal changes, sleep, stress, activity and what we eat can all influence how hungry and satisfied we feel.

Especially through perimenopause and menopause, understanding those signals matters.

Your appetite isn’t something to battle.
It’s something worth understanding. 🤍

I used to exercise because I wanted to look a certain way.Burn calories. Keep my weight down. Stay in shape.

And if I’m being completely truthful, those things still matter to me.

But they’re no longer the only reason I exercise.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve become much more aware of what I want my body to be able to do 10, 20 and hopefully 30 years from now.

I want to be strong. I want good balance and mobility. I want to travel, paddleboard, walk for miles and get up off the floor without giving it a second thought.

I want to maintain my muscle and my independence for as long as I possibly can.
So these days, when I walk, do Pilates or pick up a weight, I’m not only thinking about the body I have now.

I’m investing in the body I’m going to need later.

And strangely enough, that has made exercise feel a lot less like something I have to do and much more like something I’m grateful I still can do.

Rapid weight loss and reckless weight loss are not the same thing.

A focused period of weight loss can produce significant results in a relatively short time. But the goal should never be to simply eat as little as possible and watch the number on the scales fall.

A well-structured program considers what you’re losing, not just how much.

That means prioritising protein, supporting muscle, maintaining good nutrition and having a clear plan for what happens when the active weight-loss phase finishes.

Because losing the weight is only part of the process.

If you’re going to lose it, have a plan for keeping it off.

If you’re ready for a structured approach to weight loss, appointments are available at The Metabolic Studio.

Your skincare routine ends where?! 👀

We spend a lot of time thinking about the skin on our face, while the neck is often treated as an afterthought.

But the skin doesn’t suddenly stop changing at the jawline.

The neck can develop many of the same concerns we treat on the face, including changes in texture, uneven tone, sun damage and loss of firmness.

And because the skin in this area has its own characteristics, it deserves a little more thought than simply using whatever is left on your hands.

When appropriate, treatments such as skin needling and carefully selected chemical peels can be extended beyond the face to include the neck and décolletage as part of a considered skin treatment plan.

The point isn’t to chase every sign of ageing.
It’s simply to stop treating the jawline like the finish line.

Your neck would like a word. 😉

Muscle loss can start before you notice it.

We spend a lot of time worrying about gaining fat as we get older. I think we need to pay just as much attention to the muscle we’re losing.

Sarcopenia is the progressive loss of muscle mass, strength and physical function that occurs with ageing. And it doesn’t suddenly begin when you’re 70.

Muscle mass can gradually decline from mid-adulthood, with the process becoming more significant as we age.

For women, menopause can add another layer as hormonal changes, reduced activity and changes in body composition can make maintaining muscle more challenging.

Why does this matter?

Because muscle isn’t just about looking strong.
It helps us move, supports our bones and joints, plays an important role in glucose metabolism and helps us remain strong and independent as we get older.

It’s also something I think we need to talk about more during weight loss.

When the number on the scale drops, we don’t automatically lose only body fat. Some lean tissue can be lost too, particularly when calories are significantly reduced.

That’s why adequate protein, resistance exercise where appropriate, and actively thinking about muscle preservation matter.

For me, successful weight loss isn’t simply about making someone lighter.

I want us to be thinking about what we’re losing — and what we’re protecting.

Because the muscle you maintain now is an investment in the body you want to be living in later.
