🐙 POV: You’re a paediatric OT and somehow two hands are expected to do the job of eight.

Therapy resources, toys, visuals, water bottles, paperwork… and probably three things a child has handed you for safekeeping. 😂

Just another day of doing all the things at Together Thriving. 💛

It’s more than knowing letters and numbers! School readiness is about building the skills children need to participate, learn and feel confident at school from independence and regulation to fine motor skills, communication and following routines.

Celebrating our wonderful Speech Pathologist, Monica, this Speech Pathology Week! 💛

This year’s theme, “Communication creates possibility,” reminds us that communication opens doors to connection, learning, participation and growth. 💬✨

We’re so grateful for everything Monica brings to our Together Thriving kids and families every day! 🌱

A sensory gym is so much more than a space to play! 🌈🛝

Sensory gyms are designed to provide children with opportunities to explore movement, touch, balance and body awareness in a safe and supportive environment.

Through activities like swinging, climbing, jumping, pushing and pulling, our sensory gym can be used to support regulation, coordination, strength, motor planning, confidence and sensory processing, with activities tailored to each child’s individual needs. 💛

At Together Thriving, our sensory gym helps us make therapy active, meaningful and fun! ✨

Key Word Signs of the Week:

This week’s signs are SORE and OKAY.

Why do we love using Key Word Sign (KWS)?

✨ Understanding. We move our hands more slowly than we speak, so it slows down our communication and gives children extra processing time.

👀 It adds a visual cue.

💛 KWS doesn’t replace spoken language—we know it actually supports it.

🗣️ It gives children another tool to communicate, if spoken language is tricky for them.

🌱 It often starts with one child... but quickly benefits everyone. All children benefit from visuals, and slowing down. It also creates an inclusive environment for our signing kiddos.

📍 A quick technical note:
Australia has two regional versions of many signs: North and South. NSW, ACT, QLD are in the North region. Some signs have a (*), indicating they are the North version.

💬 When to use KWS?

✨ Nobody learns language hearing it just once or twice. Use KWS regularly, in context, throughout your day!

At Together Thriving, we celebrate and support ALL forms of communication.

Because communication isn’t about speaking in a particular way—it’s about connecting with others in ways that are meaningful and authentic 💛🌈

🎈 Who knew catching a balloon could get this competitive?

A little bit of hand-eye coordination, visual tracking and reaction time… and a whole lot of questionable catching from the Together Thriving team. 👀😂

Paediatric occupational therapy can sound like a big, confusing term, so let’s break it down. 👇

✨ Paediatric means we work with children.

✨ Occupational refers to the everyday “jobs” children need and want to do including playing, learning, making friends, getting dressed, eating, sleeping and participating at school and home.

✨ Therapy means supporting children to develop the skills, confidence and strategies they need to thrive.

Paediatric OT can help with:

🖍️ Fine motor skills and handwriting

🏃 Gross motor skills, coordination and balance

🧠 Emotional regulation and sensory processing

🗣️ Social skills and play

🍽️ Daily living skills, such as dressing, toileting and eating

🏫 School readiness and classroom participation

💛 Confidence, independence and participation in everyday life

At Together Thriving, we know that every child is unique. Our role is to break down challenges into manageable steps, celebrate strengths and help children build the skills they need to succeed in the activities that matter most to them.

Because every child deserves the opportunity to learn, play and thrive. 🌱

💙👖 Jeans for Genes Day 👖💙

Today, we’re proud to support Jeans for Genes and the incredible work of Mudgee CMRI. Every child deserves the opportunity to thrive, and thanks to the life-changing research funded by CMRI, hope is growing for families impacted by genetic conditions.

Did you know that 1 in 20 children are born with a genetic disease or birth defect? By wearing our jeans and raising awareness, we’re helping researchers work towards better treatments and brighter futures for children across Australia.

A huge shout-out to the amazing Mudgee CMRI committee and our local community, who continue to show unwavering support for this important cause year after year. 💙
