A little update from me – Not quite the week I expected.
Well, here we are again. Five months later, and unfortunately, my back has decided to remind me who's boss.
As many of you are aware, I'd suffered a significant spinal injury that put me in hospital back in May. After a wonderful week last week enjoying the beautiful weather and eating lots of cheese at Cheesefest on the Saturday. What started as a little niggle quickly escalated into debilitating pain, leaving me unable to walk and, once again, confined to bed.
It's been an incredibly difficult and emotional week, both physically and mentally.
Firstly, I want to express my sincere gratitude to the wonderful nurses and doctors at Flinders Medical Centre who have cared for me throughout this ordeal. Their kindness, compassion and dedication have not gone unnoticed, and I am genuinely thankful for everything they've done.
However, I also want to be transparent about my disappointment with where things currently stand.
Following an urgent MRI and further assessments, the decision has been made not to proceed with surgery at this stage.
While I respect that these decisions are made with careful medical consideration, it's incredibly difficult to accept being sent home to remain largely bedbound, managing excruciating pain and waiting for my body to recover once again.
I have a follow-up appointment in four weeks to reassess whether surgery is the appropriate next step.
For those who know me, you'll know that surgery is absolutely not something I want. I've spent my career helping people understand their bodies, encouraging movement, recovery and the importance of listening to what our bodies are telling us.
But sometimes, even with all the knowledge, patience and determination in the world, we have to acknowledge that our bodies need more help than we can give them.
I've been told that further recurrences are inevitable, and the thought of continuing this cycle of recovery, returning to normal life and then being completely debilitated again is incredibly confronting.
I'm beginning to accept that surgery may ultimately be the best way forward, even if it's not the path I would have chosen.
So, what does this mean for Invision by Felicity?
Well, the short answer is... I'm not going anywhere!
I absolutely love what I do. My work, my clients and the connections I've built over the years mean far too much to me to simply walk away.
What returning to work looks like right now, I honestly don't know.
Thankfully, I already had this coming week scheduled off, which means I have some time to rest, recover and hopefully get myself back on my feet without having to cancel another week of appointments.
My hope is to return at the beginning of November, provided my body allows it and I am medically fit to do so.
Will keep you posted!
I know many of you book weeks in advance, rearrange your schedules and genuinely look forward to your appointments. Having to let you down is something that breaks my heart.
Thank you for your understanding, your patience and the overwhelming kindness you've shown me.
A little note about gift vouchers
Please rest assured that ALL existing gift vouchers will absolutely be honoured.
I will also be extending the expiry date of all current vouchers by an additional month to accommodate my absence and ensure nobody misses out.
And finally...
If there's one thing this year has taught me, it's that life doesn't always go according to plan.
Sometimes we're the ones offering the care, and sometimes we're the ones who need to receive it.
As someone who spends so much of my life encouraging others to listen to their bodies, I suppose it's time I took a little more of my own advice.
I'm frustrated. I'm exhausted. And yes, I am scared about what the future might look like.
But I'm also incredibly determined.
I WILL be back doing what I love. I just need to work out what that looks like moving forward.
Thank you for continuing to support my little business, for your beautiful messages and for giving me the space to recover.
It means more than you'll ever know.
Much love,
Fizz
