Hunter Imaging

Hunter Imaging Hunter Imaging has provided the region with accurate diagnostic imaging since 1998. This remains our focus alongside an unrivalled commitment to patient care.

We believe every patient deserves to be treated with respect, compassion and care. About Hunter Imaging
Hunter Imaging has a long tradition of providing the Hunter region with accurate diagnostic imaging. Hunter Imaging has been in existence in its current form since 1998 following the merger between two long standing Novocastrian diagnostic imaging practices – Hunter Valley Medical Imaging and Ne

wcastle Diagnostic Imaging. These practices go back to the 1920’s and 1930’s respectively and prior to the merger had worked together in 1978 as a joint venture to bring the first CT scanner to Newcastle. From this collaboration it became obvious to both practices that there would be substantial benefits to patients resulting from a more comprehensive and permanent amalgamation. The merger provided Newcastle with a state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging company, with widespread locations all managed and staffed by clinicians with a broad range of expertise. Hunter Imaging now incorporates the specialised imaging services of Hunter Women’s Imaging and the Cardiovascular Centre. The Hunter Women’s Imaging centre is designed to meet the specific needs of women’s health providing a comfortable environment for women to receive top of the line specialist radiological services. The Cardiovascular Centre provides specialist vascular imaging services to the community. In 2001 Hunter Imaging was acquired by Sonic Healthcare which is an international medical diagnostics company, offering extensive pathology and radiology services to various medical communities around the world. Hunter Imaging has been able to further extend its quality of equipment and services in the local region with the corporate backing that Sonic Healthcare provides. It is our belief that every patient deserves to be treated with respect, compassion and care and this remains Hunter Imaging's focus to this day. From our Radiologists, to our Senior Management and clinic staff, there is an unrivalled commitment to patient care that places Hunter Imaging ahead of other providers.

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. New guidelines are changing how prostate cancer is screened for, offering a less invasive pathway.

Cancer is easiest to treat and is more likely to have positive outcomes when it's diagnosed in its early stages, which is why this screening process is so important.

Pathology and radiology play an important role in the screening process, including PSA blood tests and MRI scans.

When your child needs imaging, a little preparation can make a big difference.

You can help them feel more comfortable by:
Explaining the appointment in simple, calm language
Bringing a familiar comfort item if appropriate
Allowing enough time so the visit does not feel rushed
Letting our team know about any worries, sensory needs or previous experiences

Our team will explain each step and help your child know what to expect.

If you have questions before the appointment, please contact the branch or speak with our booking team. We are here to support you both.

Feeling anxious about an MRI?
It is completely understandable to feel unsure about the enclosed space, the sounds or staying still. Letting our booking team know early gives us the opportunity to explain what to expect and discuss the support available for your appointment.

During the scan, you can communicate with the radiographer, and you will be given hearing protection for the scanner noise.

If you are worried about claustrophobia or think you may need extra support, speak with your referrer and our team when arranging your appointment. A conversation beforehand can make the experience feel much more manageable.

Ultrasound is well known for pregnancy imaging, but that is only part of what it can do.
Using high-frequency sound waves, ultrasound creates real-time images without ionising radiation. It can help investigate many areas of the body, including:

Muscles, tendons and joints
The abdomen and pelvis
Blood vessels and blood flow
The thyroid and other soft tissues

Our experienced team is here to guide you through the appointment and what to expect.
