We’re always grateful when patients take the time to share their experience with us. 💙

After undergoing cataract surgery at Marsden Eye Surgery Centre, one of our patients wrote to thank our doctors, orthoptists, nurses, reception and surgical teams for the care they received throughout their journey.

🎉 The Marsden Eye Research Centre celebrates its 25th Anniversary!

Since its establishment in June 2001 by Dr Jennifer Arnold, the Marsden Eye Research Centre (MERC) has been dedicated to advancing eye care and improving outcomes for patients through world-class clinical research.

Over the past 25 years, MERC has proudly participated in more than 65 international clinical trials, helping bring new treatments and hope to patients living with conditions including:

👁️ Wet Age-Related Macular Degeneration (wAMD)
👁️ Intermediate AMD
👁️ Geographic Atrophy
👁️ Diabetic Macular Oedema
👁️ Retinal Vein Occlusions
👁️ Glaucoma

Behind every research milestone is an incredible team committed to making a difference.

A very special thank you goes to Trish Forsyth, who has been an integral part of MERC since the very beginning, joining in July 2001 as our first Study Coordinator.

For 25 years, Trish’s dedication, passion and commitment have helped build the foundation of MERC and have contributed enormously to the success of our research program. Her unwavering support for our patients, research partners and team has been truly invaluable.

Investing in our team's knowledge is one of the most important ways we can continue providing exceptional care to our patients.

Yesterday, the Marsden Eye Specialists orthoptic team came together for our Annual Internal Orthoptic Education Day, bringing our clinicians together to learn, collaborate, and share the latest knowledge in ophthalmic care.

The day featured a range of educational sessions covering clinical updates, surgical practices, clinical trial updates, and new developments within the industry. It was a fantastic opportunity for our team to strengthen their skills, exchange ideas, and stay at the forefront of patient care.

A heartfelt thank you to our Orthoptic Team Leader Mitchell Bagley for coordinating such a valuable event, and to all of our orthoptists for their enthusiasm and commitment to ongoing professional development.

Last night we had an incredibly successful Optometry Seminar, with over 125 attendees joining us for an engaging and educational evening.

Day 5 – Orthoptics Awareness Week Finale 👁️

As we wrap up Orthoptics Awareness Week, Rafal is discussing one of the most iconic pieces of equipment in orthoptic practice: the Synoptophore.

The Synoptophore is used to assess and manage binocular vision disorders, helping clinicians evaluate eye alignment, fusion, and depth perception. Despite being a long-established instrument, it remains a valuable tool in the assessment and treatment of many patients.

Watch as Rafal explains how the Synoptophore works and why it continues to play an important role in orthoptic care.

Today, Steven is discussing one of the most valuable imaging technologies used in modern eye care: Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT).

OCT provides detailed cross-sectional images of the retina and optic nerve, helping clinicians detect, monitor, and manage a wide range of eye conditions.

Watch as Steven explains how OCT works, what it can reveal, and why it has become an essential tool in the diagnosis and management of ocular disease.
