Twenty minutes still counts. So does ten.
It certainly does have to be an Ultramarathon…. But the views are fab 👌🏻 This photo was from me, several days into a 200miler …. And you want to know something? I haven’t done one since (and this was years ago!!)
You used to run further. Lift heavier. Train four days a week without thinking about it.
And now? You get out for a walk and there’s a little voice saying that’s not really training.
I know that voice. I’ve had it too.
Here’s what it’s actually doing: making you feel guilty about the movement you DID do, until eventually you stop bothering at all.
Day 2 of Women’s Health Week is To Move. And the theme is still “Do it anyway!”
Anyway means shorter than you’d like.
Smaller than you used to.
Different to what it was.
🚶♀️ Three things I’d start with:
1️⃣Ten minutes : your body doesn’t know or care whether it was one block or three. Movement is movement. The all-or-nothing thinking is what stops you, not the ten minutes.
2️⃣Strength twice a week. Your bones, your muscle, your metabolism through perimenopause and beyond. Two sessions. That’s the whole ask. It’s the one I struggle with the most so I am right there with you!!
3️⃣Count the walking and incidental movement. School pickup, the shops, the dog, pacing on a phone call. It’s not “just” walking. It genuinely adds up, and it’s the most sustainable movement most of us will ever do.
So this is your reminder that the version of you from five years ago isn’t the benchmark. Today is.
Small steps, big changes. 💜
