Game day at RAC Arena πŸ€ For his Custom Care Experience (CCE), Luke headed to the Perth Wildcats game against the New Zealand Breakers with his support worker, Chris. Wildcats jersey on, ticket in hand, and hot dog sorted.

CCEs are one-off outings built around a participant’s own interests and NDIS goals, with one-to-one support from our team.

Alyssa's Custom Care Experience took her to Landsdale Farm! She stopped by the paddock to meet the alpacas, then headed over to the aviary to visit the cockatoos. A great day out with plenty of animal friends.

Curious about what a CCE could look like for yourself or someone you support? Send us a DM and we'll tell you more πŸ¦™πŸ’«

This is difficult to share as no words can truly hold the space Chad leaves behind. TNWA has been privileged to walk alongside Chad and his family over the past couple of years, and in that time something rare took shape between us. It was a kind of connection that doesn't ask to be explained, only felt.

He had a way of drawing people together through music, food, and the shared thrill of a fast car. In his presence, strangers became friends, and friends became something closer to family. He gave freely of himself even in his hardest moments. That courage and kindness is what so many of us will carry forward.

Thank you, Chad, for showing us what it means to be soft in a world that doesn't always ask us to be. Thank you for the honest conversations, for the laughter that came easily, and for letting us stand beside you through the good days and the bad. You didn't just pass through our lives, you wove yourself into them.

Rest peacefully, Chad. What you gave us doesn't end here. It ripples through every life you were part of. In the quiet, lasting ways, we are all better for having known you.

Spring's arrived, and the tulips at Araluen Botanic Park are putting on a show. Elvin spent a social support outing there taking in the Tulip Festival, and we'd say it was worth the trip 🌷

Michelle works with us as a support worker and a few weeks back she won something most people would have quietly kept for themselves: ten tickets to the footy, lunch included. She didn't keep them.

Instead, she rounded up a group of our participants and their support workers and turned one prize into a proper day out for everyone. Reserved seats in the grandstand, a buffet lunch, and afternoon tea, the sort of afternoon that usually costs a fair bit more than a normal footy trip. Everyone got the full VIP treatment πŸ€—

This is exactly the kind of thing Michelle does without being asked and it's a big part of why people choose to work here.

At Together For Good, we handed the mic to some of the people who make our community work.

Daria from Kids First Australia, Jess from Uniting WA, and Ally & Susan from Befriend Inc each shared what their organisation does and how they support families and individuals in our community.

It's this kind of partnership, different services working side by side, that makes real support possible. πŸŽ₯ Watch the video to hear it straight from them.

Twelve became twenty.

That's the World Health Organization's list of things linked to dementia risk. Twelve on it in 2019, twenty in the update they published this July.

They're firm about three. Support to quit smoking, which is the only strong recommendation that names dementia directly. Regular exercise. And a no on supplements, because vitamin B, vitamin E, fish oil and multivitamins are specifically not recommended for this, unless you've been diagnosed with a deficiency.

The two biggest single factors are hearing loss and high cholesterol, at about 7% of dementia cases each. Social isolation is third at 5%. Mid-life keeps coming up as the window that counts, for weight, blood pressure and cholesterol.

Six of the twenty came back with no answer at all. Sleep, depression, vision, stroke, head injury and HIV. WHO still says treat every one of them. What they can't say yet is whether treating them shifts dementia risk, and they published that gap rather than papering over it.

The part that stayed with us is what WHO says about the whole exercise. Much of what shapes dementia risk sits beyond any one person's control, and fixing it takes more than personal change. Nobody develops dementia because they didn't try hard enough.

The guidelines are free to read on WHO's website: https://www.who.int/publications/i/item/9789240123557

The signs are usually there before the conversation is... September is World Alzheimer's Month, and it's built around one idea. The earlier you know, the more you can do.

We put together a short carousel on what a diagnosis can open up, plus where to go if you're not sure where to start. Swipe through when you've got a minute.
