Phynix By Design

Phynix By Design I help people work through life’s challenges — not be defined by them. Hey, I’m Gemma-Lee. Maybe it’s the stress that’s started showing up in your body.

Holistic counselling and lifestyle coaching on the Sunshine Coast, blending traditional and holistic approaches to help you reconnect with who you really are. If you’ve landed here, chances are something in your life is asking for attention. Maybe it’s a relationship that’s lost its rhythm. Maybe it’s a quiet voice whispering, “There has to be more than this.”

I hear you. And I want you to know —

whatever you’re carrying, it doesn’t have to become who you are. I’m a Holistic Counsellor and Lifestyle Coach based on Australia’s Sunshine Coast, and I’ve been opening hearts and facilitating transformations since 2017. My approach blends traditional counselling with holistic practices like meditation, mindfulness, and energy work — because you’re not just a mind, and healing isn’t one-size-fits-all. The heart of my work? I help you work through your challenges rather than hand you a label and send you on your way. I believe you already have extraordinary abilities within you — sometimes you just need someone to walk alongside you while you remember them. Think of this as your space to breathe, explore, and reignite. Phynix By Design — Life Reignited 🔥

The inner critic is very specific.

It doesn't fire at random. It has particular timing — the moment just after you've done something brave, or just before you try something new. It has a familiar tone — something that might sound like a parent, a teacher, a voice from a particular time in your life. And it has specific lines it returns to, the ones it knows have landed before.

Who do you think you are. You always do this. That was embarrassing. You should know better by now.

Noticing these specifics — the tone, the timing, the particular phrases — is not the same as agreeing with them. But it is the beginning of seeing the critic as a thing with a history, rather than as the simple truth about you.

There's a significant difference. 🌿

Here's something that changes how this work feels: the inner critic was, at its origin, trying to protect you.

If criticism from others hurt, an internal critic that beat others to it could feel like control. If failure had real consequences, a voice that predicted failure first could feel like preparation. If being seen fully felt dangerous, a voice that said you're not quite ready, not quite good enough, not quite enough could feel like it was saving you from something worse.

It wasn't right. But it was doing its best with what it had available.

Understanding that doesn't mean letting the critic run unchecked. It means approaching it with something other than contempt — with genuine curiosity about what it was protecting, and whether that protection is still what you need.

That question — what is this actually keeping me safe from? — is worth exploring properly. This is exactly the work we do together in session. If you've been thinking about reaching out — my door is open. 🌿

The inner critic didn't arrive fully formed.

It assembled itself over years — from feedback received, from watching what happened when people made mistakes, from the tone in which certain things were said (or not said). From classrooms and households and early relationships where you were still working out what it meant to be acceptable.

Nobody deliberately installed it. But it got installed anyway — built from lived experience, shaped by real consequences, honed into something that felt like protection.

Which is exactly why approaching it with judgment doesn't tend to work. It's not a character flaw that arrived from nowhere. It's something that formed for a reason. And understanding that reason changes everything about how you relate to it. 🌿

Welcome to June. 🌿

This month we're turning our attention to something most of us live with so closely we've almost stopped noticing it — the internal voice that comments, critiques, and delivers its verdict on almost everything we do.

Not to wage war on it. Not to pretend it isn't there. But to actually hear it clearly — maybe for the first time — and understand where it came from and what it's been trying to do.

Because that voice wasn't born fully formed. It has a history. And when you understand that history, something shifts in how you relate to what it says.

I'm glad you're here for this one. 🌿

May done. And genuinely — well done.

This has been a month that asked something real of you. Not just to think about money or success, but to look honestly at the beliefs running underneath — about worth, about deserving, about what you're allowed to want and receive.

That's not small work. And it doesn't resolve neatly at the end of a month. What you've looked at here gets to keep going — the noticing, the questioning, the small experiments in receiving.

June brings something new: a closer look at the internal voice that most of us have learned to live with — the inner critic, where it came from, and what becomes possible when we meet it differently.

Everything from this month — especially any softening in how you speak to yourself — comes with you.

See you in June. 🌿

There's a particular kind of generosity that never quite includes the self.

Giving flows easily. Supporting, contributing, being there — all of that comes naturally. But receiving? Actually letting something good land — a compliment, an offer of help, a gift of time or care or money — that's often where things get uncomfortable.

For a lot of people, there's a quiet belief running underneath: that taking is somehow less dignified than giving. That needing is a burden. That real strength means never requiring anything from anyone.

But receiving is its own kind of skill. And practising it — really letting something in without immediately deflecting or minimising or finding a way to give it straight back — is one of the most honest acts of self-worth there is.

What would it mean to let something good actually reach you this week?

You don't have to sit with this alone. My door is open. 🌿
