The feature in North Shore Living, explores the impact of the NORTH Sydney Trials and Research Van Norton Poche Cancer Clinical Trials Centre, including the new Early Phase Unit made possible by the extraordinary $20 million gift from Greg Poche AO and the late Kay Van Norton Poche AO.

It also shares the story of Michel, whose participation in a clinical trial following the return of his throat cancer has delivered an encouraging treatment response - and given him the opportunity to contribute to research that may help future patients.

From shaving heads to tipping ice buckets, the students found plenty of fun ways to rally their school community behind a great cause.

Sleep is essential for heart health yet sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnoea often go undetected. In fact, more than 80% of people with moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnoea are unaware they have it, despite its strong links to heart attack, stroke and heart failure.

Through the Healthy Sleep for Healthy Hearts research program (bit.ly/47ojKW9), clinicians and researchers are working to identify hidden sleep disorders earlier and integrate sleep screening into routine cardiac care, helping protect hearts and save lives ❤

Over the past year, we’ve seen the opening of the NORTH STAR VNP Cancer Clinical Trials Centre, brought our community together to explore research into healthy ageing at the Kolling Showcase, shared patient stories, and helped support patients, families and healthcare teams across Northern Sydney.

These moments, and so much more, are only possible because of the generosity of our donors and supporters.

After developing a rare autoimmune condition, Nina experienced debilitating pain “like acid pouring on [her] feet” and lost the ability to walk. Everything changed when she began plasma exchange therapy at Royal North Shore Hospital.

With monthly treatment and the compassionate support of the hospital’s apheresis team, Nina can now walk again, be an active mum and reconnect with the work she loves.

Today on World Sepsis Day, we’re thanking the Royal North Shore Hospital researchers working to improve sepsis care – from earlier detection and smarter treatment to better long-term recovery.
