It's been 200 years since the original sighting, and this is the 70th Festival of Fisher's Ghost. It runs until Sunday 8 November, with the fun run to finish.

❤️ Recognising the people behind the care.

This National Carers Week, we recognise the thousands of Australians who provide care and support to a family member, friend or loved one.

Being a carer can mean so many things.

It can mean helping with the everyday tasks.
Being there for appointments.
Making difficult decisions together.
Holding someone's hand when they're frightened.
Or simply being there — day after day.

Often, carers are family members quietly doing extraordinary things for the people they love.

"Southern Cross Funerals recently organised my mother's funeral. The organisation and communication was exceptional. I thought I knew what to expect but they were all over the detail and told me all of the little things that would need to be attended to. I found the team to be compassionate, had an eye for every little detail and were most respectful throughout the process. I have been to funerals where the attendants seem bored but this was not the case at all - they respected the ceremony and were extremely supportive and focussed on ensuring that everything from the funeral Mass to the burial went seamlessly. I most especially thank Lyn for her help throughout the process - she is a true treasure - and its obvious that her job is a vocation - not just a job. Compassion, dignity, and quality of life.

World Hospice and Palliative Care Day is an opportunity to recognise the importance of compassionate care for people living with a life-limiting illness, as well as the families and loved ones supporting them.

Palliative care isn't simply about the end of life. It's about helping people live as comfortably and meaningfully as possible, while providing support for those around them.

It's about listening.
It's about dignity.
It's about comfort.
And it's about ensuring people and their families don't have to navigate difficult times alone.

Today, we acknowledge the healthcare professionals, carers, volunteers and families who provide comfort and compassion when it matters most. 💙
