💛 R U OK? Day 2026 | Martin Place, Sydney

Today Nathan had the privilege of presenting an R U OK? Day session for APRA, right in the heart of Sydney at iconic Martin Place.

There’s something incredibly meaningful about facilitating conversations that remind us that checking in with someone doesn’t require us to be a counsellor, psychologist or mental health professional. Sometimes it simply starts with four words:

“Are you OK?”

Today’s session was about more than awareness. It was about building the confidence to notice when someone might be struggling, start a genuine conversation, listen without judgement, and know how to continue supporting someone when the answer is, “No, I’m not OK.”

As a counsellor, facilitator and someone with lived experience, these conversations mean a great deal to me. Creating workplaces where people feel safe enough to speak honestly about how they’re travelling can make a genuine difference.

A huge thank you to APRA for investing in the wellbeing of its people and for the engagement, openness and conversations throughout today’s presentation.

From Martin Place in Sydney, it was a privilege to play a small part in such an important national day.

Ask R U OK? Any Day. Because a conversation could change a life. 💛

💛 R U OK? Day 2026 | A Conversation Can Change a Life

Today is a reminder that checking in with someone can be more powerful than we realise.

As mental health professionals, we know that people don’t always show when they’re struggling. Someone can be working, smiling, parenting, studying, playing sport or simply getting through their day — while carrying something incredibly heavy behind the scenes.

R U OK? Day encourages us to look beyond “How are you?” and create the space to genuinely listen to the answer.

💛 Ask, “Are you OK?”
💛 Listen without judgement.
💛 Encourage action and connection.
💛 Check in again — not just today, but throughout the year.

You don’t need to be a counsellor or mental health professional to start a meaningful conversation. Sometimes being present, listening and showing someone that they matter can be an important first step toward support.

At Expressive Mind Therapy, our team is proud to support individuals, families, workplaces and communities through counselling, allied health services, education and mental health training.

Today, we encourage everyone to check in with a mate, colleague, family member, teammate or someone who has simply been a little quieter lately.

Don’t wait until someone tells you they’re struggling. Ask the question. Listen to the answer. Stay connected.

Because R U OK? isn’t just a question for today — it’s a conversation worth having every day. 💛

Today, our Director Nathan Darvill is in Sydney, living the travelling facilitator life and preparing to deliver mental health presentations to a number of clients ahead of R U OK? Day. 💛

This is more than another day on the calendar—it’s an important reminder of the power of genuine human connection, meaningful conversations and having the confidence to ask, “Are you OK?” For Nathan, facilitating these sessions is about taking lived experience, professional knowledge and a passion for mental health advocacy into workplaces and communities where conversations can create real change.

We’re incredibly proud to have Expressive Mind Therapy represented in Sydney on such an important occasion—helping people feel more confident to notice the signs, start the conversation, listen without judgement and continue checking in. Sometimes one conversation really can make a difference. 💛

The best way to build confidence in First Aid is through hands-on practice.

Our courses go beyond theory, giving you the opportunity to practise essential skills such as CPR, using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), managing emergency situations, and responding to real-life scenarios in a supportive learning environment.

We believe practical experience helps participants retain their knowledge and feel more prepared to act when an emergency arises.

As the Director of Expressive Mind Therapy and an experienced First Aid trainer, Nathan is passionate about creating engaging, practical training that equips every participant with skills they can use both in the workplace and everyday life.

Counselling at Expressive Mind Therapy — More Than Just a Conversation 🌱

Counselling doesn’t have to be simply sitting in a room and talking about what’s going wrong.

At Expressive Mind Therapy, our counselling sessions are purposeful, structured and focused on helping people create meaningful change in their lives.

Depending on the individual and their goals, counselling can involve education, practical strategies, therapeutic activities, homework, accountability and achievable goal setting. We work alongside our clients to help them better understand their thoughts, feelings and behaviours — and importantly, develop strategies they can use outside the therapy room.

As the photos show, sessions can include structured approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), exploring thinking patterns, cognitive distortions and the connection between our thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

Our approach is about real strategies, manageable goals and positive outcomes — one step at a time.

With male and female counsellors available, our team can provide support across the lifespan for children, adolescents and adults.

If you’re ready to take some positive steps forward, we’d love to support you.

Have your say!

Earlier this week, the Government opened consultation on the proposed NDIS access changes.

They says these changes aim to make access decisions clearer, fairer and more consistent. Your feedback will help the Technical Advisory Group for NDIS functional capacity develop advice for the Government.

Submissions are open to everyone. You don't have to use formal policy language. You can share your lived experience, concerns, and what decision-makers should know when making changes to how people access the NDIS.

You can share your thoughts on the proposed changes to NDIS access until 11.59pm AEDT on Friday 2 October 2026. Click here to find out more: https://buff.ly/E5HZHdn
