Ana Tavares, ESLA delegate, was invited to attend the Opening Session of the IV Congress of the Portuguese Society of Speech Therapy (SPTF), where she represented ESLA and APTF.

During the congress, APTF President João Mira Torres and Ana Tavares, proudly promoted the upcoming 13th ESLA Congress, taking place in Porto, Portugal, in May 2027. They highlighted this important milestone, which reflects the strong partnership between ESLA and APTF, whose dedication and support are helping shape an outstanding congress experience for speech and language therapy professionals across Europe and beyond.

Yesterday, ESLA was honoured to hold its General Assembly in Estonia, where we shared the latest developments, exchanged ideas, and strengthened collaboration across our European community of speech and language therapy professionals.

We are thrilled to share that Zë’s from Kosovo has officially joined as a Full Member of the European Speech and Language Therapy Association (ESLA)!

We would like to warmly thank all participants, member associations, and colleagues who joined the General Assembly, contributed to the discussions, and supported the collaborative spirit of ESLA.

Together, we continue strengthening speech and language therapy across Europe.

ESLA at the Estonian Parliament in Tallinn 🇪🇪✨

Today, ESLA was honoured to co-organise a seminar at the Estonian Parliament in Tallinn together with the Estonian Logopedists’ Union (Eesti Logopeedide Ühing) and the Estonian Parliament. 🇪🇪✨

Professionals from across Europe gathered to discuss the future of Speech and Language Therapy — focusing on innovation, access, equity, research, and multilingual clinical practice.

It was an honour to share ideas, learn from leading experts, and strengthen collaboration between countries to make our profession more visible and impactful on European policy. 🤝

Today at the Baltic SLT Congress in Riga, ESLA took part in an important talk on preparing speech and language therapists for contemporary practice in Europe.

The presentation was delivered by Sahra Mengal, Chair of ESLA.

As SLT practice becomes more complex, more interdisciplinary, and increasingly influenced by technology and AI, the preparation of future professionals must remain strong, broad, and forward-looking.

Workforce pressures and growing service needs are real across Europe — but sustainable solutions must continue to protect quality, competence, and public trust.

Thank you to the organisers for hosting this timely discussion and for the Baltic region’s longstanding contribution to the European SLT community.

Today we celebrate European SLT Day, a moment to recognise the vital work of speech and language therapists across Europe and to raise awareness of communication and swallowing disorders. Communication is fundamental to participation in education, employment, healthcare, relationships, and society.

This year’s theme focuses on “Shaping the Future of Speech and Language Therapy with Artificial Intelligence.” AI is beginning to transform healthcare and offers exciting opportunities for our profession — from supporting assessment and intervention to improving access to services.

At the same time, speech and language therapy remains rooted in human connection, clinical expertise, and ethical care. As these technologies develop, it is essential that our profession helps shape how AI is used to support — not replace — the therapeutic relationship.

Together, we are shaping a future where innovation strengthens communication, participation, and inclusion across Europe.
