Between 12 and 18 months, a LOT can happen with language.

This is a period where we can see children go from 10 words to 50 words from 12 to 18 months!

Six months is a long time in early language development!

Understanding AVERAGE and MILESTONE is key πŸ”‘
See the above πŸ‘€

Some children will catch up on their own. Some won't. There is so much growth happening during this time!

Trust your parent gut. 🀍

Next up: 18–24 months... because language growth doesn't slow down there! There is a HUGE BURST from 18 to 24 months!!

I'm exploring something new!

This fall, I'm introducing daytime in-home speech therapy for families living in Angus.

Before finalizing my schedule, I'd love to get an idea of the interest. If in-home therapy is something you've been looking for, I'd love for you to join my no-obligation waitlist.

This doesn't commit you to anything, and it doesn't commit me to offering a certain number of appointments. It simply helps me understand whether there's enough demand to make this a regular service.

A few important details:
β€’ πŸ“ Angus families only
β€’ πŸ•˜ Daytime appointments only
β€’ 🚫 No evening appointments in 2026

If this sounds like something your family would benefit from, Comment "LIST" and I'll send you the link OR send me a message. I'd love to hear from you!

A common conversation in my assessment room...

Parent: "My child still doesn't know their colours..."
Me: "Can they ask you to open their favourite snack?"
Parent: "Not yet... and they don't know their letters or numbers either."
Me: "Imagine they're at daycare and you're not there. Which words are going to help them more: 'red, blue, green' or 'help,' 'open,' and 'more'?"

I had a parent ask me, "But my child can say it... so why aren't they using it when they're talk?"Because it opens the d...

I had a parent ask me, "But my child can say it... so why aren't they using it when they're talk?"

Because it opens the door to one of the most important conversations I have in speech therapy.

Learning a sound is just the first stepping stone!
Let's learn together! 😊

Why Stepping Stones? πŸͺ¨

When I opened my practice over 10 years ago, I spent a long time thinking about a name.

I kept coming back to Stepping Stones because that's exactly how communication develops.

Parents often worry that their child isn't talking yet. But before first words, there are so many important skills that develop first.

Each one is a stepping stone.

My job isn't to rush children to talk. It's to figure out which stepping stone they need next and help them get there.
One step at a time.

Inspired by educational posts from Total Communication Speech Pathology Services. Thank you!
