😰 Afraid of starting something new? You’re not alone.

This week, I took my own advice: Be scared and do it anyway.

I walked into a gym for the first time in years—nervous, self-conscious, and sure I’d be judged. But I made a fear ladder, scooped up my anxious part, and did it anyway.

💛 You don’t need to feel ready. You just need to start gently.

This weekend, the dark swirl of shame tried to pull me down. Thoughts like, “How could I be so stupid?” or “I don’t want to face anyone,” came rushing in faster than I could defend against.

Digging myself out of shame was effortful, but I used a few tools to help loosen its grip.

I started by labelling the emotion: “This is shame.” Then, I tuned into my physical body, noticing how it showed up: constricted throat, sinking feeling, churning stomach, and shallow breathing. Reminding myself of our shared humanity, that everyone experiences shame, was a powerful comfort. Even when it felt hard, offering myself care and compassion was what ultimately relieved me.

Shame is heavy, but we don’t have to carry it alone.

Today, we pause to honour the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of those who have served in the armed forces, as well as their families and loved ones who support them.

For many, Remembrance Day can bring a mix of emotions—gratitude, grief, pride, or even unresolved pain. It’s a reminder of the impact of war and service on mental health, both for veterans and those who carry their stories.

As a psychotherapist, I want to acknowledge the strength it takes to seek help and heal. Whether you're a veteran, a family member, or someone moved by today's significance, know that you're not alone.

💬 Let’s take a moment to reflect. How are you remembering today? 🌺
